What cards need to be graded no matter what the grade

Some one’s response in the Jordan rookie thread said that the Jordan’s need to be graded no matter what. What are some other cards that you feel need to be graded no matter the condition? I feel that any Mickey mantle needs to be.

Cards with value over a certain dollar amount (500.00?), no matter the final grade to ensure authenticity.

OPC Gretzky rookies, Pete Rose rookies. Lots of fakes (though I imagine most of the fakes are probably at least near mint).

The answer of course is no card needs to be graded. If you know the card is authentic and you prefer it out of a slab then why bother?

Now for resale? I wouldn’t sell any big name card without getting it graded. But for my run of sets, I prefer having them in binders, including cards like 79 gretz and 60s/70s hockey star rc’s. Having the star cards in slabs breaks up the flow of the set.

When I typed that up in the other thread, what I meant was there are just some cards that I can’t see buying raw no matter the circumstances. Jordan rookie is an example. If I’m getting a great deal raw, why was it never slabbed? Must be a fake. And why would I ever pay market for a raw card that is often faked?

Maybe more cards fall into this group than I’m thing of, but off the top of my head, in addition to Jordan: Gretzky rookie, 52T Mantle, 63 Rose and 33 Goudy Ruth are probably the most faked cards out there?

I'll say this, I'm getting to the point where I prefer all of my cards to be in a PSA slab no matter the grade. It's a perfect frame for my little pieces of art!

I would think any high end jersey/memorabilia/autographed cards would qualify. Think Babe Ruth,Lebron. There are cases of homemade cards, swaped out/added pieces of jersey, fabrics etc. Erased autographs that were not neat. Then resigned over.

I agree with this 100%. I've cracked open Mantles for my run of sets in the 60's (and 1959)

I recently picked up a 1958T Football set and cracked the Jim Brown that was a 5. The binder sets look so much nicer with every card in it...
