    Where did the survival numbers come from?

    BHNC #248 … 140 and counting.

    Here is a breakdown of the survival estimates from Coin facts and Dick Osburn/Brian Cushings book. They vary from date to date so I went with the number that I believe reflected my experience over the past 4 years.

    1841- CF-2,300 & OC-5,250 (I went with the higher number)
    1873- CF-850 & OC-1,500 (I went with the higher number)
    1872- CF-2,000 & OC-5,500(I went with the higher number)
    1848- CF-1,500 & OC-750(I went with the lower number)

    Please note these are obviously not exact numbers and we will never know exactly how many examples exist. What’s really important is the number of original coins that have avoided problems over the years. For this I like to use the CAC population report. For the heck of it I’ll list those below... It’s really eye opening when you compare LSDs to other coin series. These CAC coins command a premium and imho it is justified for this series. Can’t speak for Morgan’s but LSDs are rare with CAC approval.

    1848- 29 CAC (across all grades)
    1873- 33 CAC (across all grades)
    1872- 62 CAC (across all grades)

    I took the 72 and the 41, both are really superb coins. totally original. Only took 4d to ship from Cali. to east coast.
    Crusty is great to deal with! I think anyone who bought one of the coins offered is very happy.
