With PCGS closed, what happens with new Mint issues regarding First Strike designations?

winestevenwinesteven Posts: 4,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

Will keeping items shipped from the Mint "unopened" allow for the above designation? Separately, what about bullion items not sold by the Mint, but only available from the Mint's handful of designated sellers, like America the Beautiful 5 oz. bullion? Will buying a tube of 10 from one of those suppliers in their "US Mint Direct" sealed container be sufficient inside (and also outside) that suppliers shipping box?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Stay safe, and have a nice weekend.

Steve

ANACS closed since 3/19, NGC deemed itself " essential" and is still open. PCGS, Last I heard is officially closed, However, I have heard that coins are still being sent out despite california "stay home" order.

Stay safe Mr. Coinguy. ;) I heard things are bad in CO.
Funny how the #3 major TPGS (ranked by income and # of coins received) is ignored on the boards. They are also open from 8 AM until 8 PM EST. No walk-ins at this time.

BTW, I an guilty too as I always refer to the ANA's Certification Service in my writing so as not to advertise its successor.

Now to the OP's question. AFAIK if the coin is left in the unopened box with a mail date it will get the designation.

    Insider2:
I am getting alittle itchy to get back in the game. Home with the wife and 3 boys has it's ups and downs. Thankfully
we are off with pay and weather is getting nice. ANACS is going with the Gov's mandate. Some coin shops closed. I guess businesses, for the time being, determine whether they are essential or not. Colorado was once the 5th on the list of new cases of COVID-19, now we are like 16th so we must be doing something right. Not looking forward to a month's backlog, but the work's gotta be done. This will be over soon and I'm glad to have "taken one" for the team.

They will find a way to sell you the expensive labels you want. Guidance will come. Just don't open the mint shipping boxes.

I'm surprised someone from PCGS hasn't posted an official answer. If the coin is submitted in the unopened shipping box with a visible post marked date I'm sure they will determine the eligibility based on the date.
