It has been slow for a week now, but today I sold a nice coin.

Decided to pay it back and I bought a nice coin today.

How are your online sales and buys?

I listed a few but no sales.

Currently using this downtime to get all my baseball cards and coins listed as well as organize a few orders for future subs.

Make wise use of your downtime.

I have a stack of major error coins that need to be photographed, captioned, priced, and listed.

NGC sent me an email saying that 33 mint error coins are on the way to me. All needing the above work.

PCGS has my coins on hold so no work on those for now.

I haven't been in the mood to take out my camera and get to work, but I know I need to.

All dependent on delivery services being available. Probably just a matter of time before USPS moves to mailbox services only and from there to no service.

Sales have slowed in my eBay store, though I sold a 1oz Buffalo (2013 Proof, PCGS 70) two days ago. They have not yet paid though, and now I doubt they will since it's been over 48 hours.

As the situation grows worse expect sales of discretionary items such as coins to grind to a halt. The negative economic impact of this crisis is yet to be fully realized.

This is true. I would go so far as to suggest that the widget part of the market may never recover. Those sectors were already weak and I expect you will see enough migration away from the hobby by the economically displaced that the demand will be so far below supply that it will be many, many years before they recover, if at all.

How do you define the 'widget part of the market'?

Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

Some retail sales of medium and small ticket coins. It all adds up. These will always do well. Auction items did ok recovered at least around cost.

It can make a difference if its a series most potential buyers are interested in. Morgan Dollars in 63 and 64 popular ($50 range not that far from melt) seem popular vs Washington Quarters.

My personal eBay sales were nonexistent until last weekend when I started listing again. This past week has been good for me with 50 or so sales. Mostly under $100, had two around $2000. Not all bullion related either.

I sold one $2400 coin in the last two weeks, 6 $50 coins, and like 70 $2 stamps/postcards/covers.

Of course, that has to be weighed against the fact that I haven't been listing too much new material as I'm trying to adjust to the new conditions.

I have some other non-coin collectible items I was thinking of selling last week. I'm no longer thinking of selling. There is no way I want to try to sell into this economic situation. If I were still buying I would be cutting they amounts I was willing to pay ... and I don't mean by a little. I would be especially wary of anything that was essentially common or had a thin market.

Most US collector coins ARE essentially common.

"Most US collector coins ARE essentially common."

    THIS

If they weren't common, there wouldn't be much of a market because most collectors do not have the patience to go for many months to years in search of something. People tend to exit the hobby when their active additions to their collections go to zero (or nearly so).

I also agree that the lower-priced coins (ca. $1K or less) will be tough to sell. There are many collectors for whom a generic MS65 Saint is a type coin to dream about.

I am going to have my daughter help me improve my photography while she's back home, she is studying video production and has offered to help me with lighting.
