Banks in my area closing their lobbies

ttownttown Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭

Only the drive through is open. How many have lost access to their safety deposit boxes?

Same situation in our area(Iowa). Access to a banker and SDB by appointment.

I am just curious if you ask them you need to get to the safe deposit Box did they say no? I would think there only limiting the foot traffic. After all if you wanted to withdraw more than $500 or $1000.00 you have to go inside. Just curious I would think they would let you in but maybe not.
I have a safe so I am not in that position. TYIA

Do you think that policy will last after an employee or client brings in the virus? Just trying to see what everyone thinks so don’t panic. I can wait if they do, no biggie.

No but thank you I just wanted to be able to buy a package. I am waiting to see if my 10 pack I bought from Amazon gets here before our local stores get a shipment. At least in the store I was in they are LIMITING to 2 of the same item and NO more. And I was told the customers are mad as hell over that. Ohhh well tomorrow I will be back in the Refinery working and I can forget about this madness for about 10 hours.

Edited to add: Or you can get a little extra at the refinery tomorrow. :D

I withdrew a fair amount thru the drive through today. No issue other than the gal put on gloves before counting out the money.

My wife told me Monday that banks around us were closing lobbies. Then you see an article like that after seeing other articles and you remember grandma telling you about 1933 and the newspapers and radio telling you not to worry - your money is safe in the bank. Well, we all know how well that ended for a lot of people - my 2nd great grandmother lost her life savings of $1500.

Got the bank email two days ago and gas about two hours' notice to rush out and get a box of nickels.

    Lobbies open by appt only.

I figured that many (incl most younger people) won't even know they lobbiesvare closed as so much is done via ATMs or electronically these days.

No SDB, take care of my own security...bank has drive through, but I will not need it. As far as the complete stupidity of TP buying.... well, that is the dumbest, panic fueled move you can imagine. No reason or logic behind it - at least not for the United States. The gun shops are low on ammo and shotguns are sold out, with rifles moving fast. For those of us with foresight, not an issue. ;) Things are going very well (except we cannot go out to dine for a while)...and I am off to work shortly. Cheers, RickO

I got my stuff out last week, and put in a secure location off premises.

Also, I have been hearing a cash run on some banks as of late. One of the diamond dealers here locally went to get out about 20k last Friday, and there was a guy in the bank withdrawing his entire account of 160k. He would not leave until they gave it too him. They had too close that branch till Monday as they were out of funds. Also, another dealer friend of mine, two of his customers (both Dr's) called thier bank On Monday, and are getting all of there funds out, (which is quite large Im told)

Many banks are out of SDBs now. Have to get on a waiting list to get one. Many larger boxes haven't been available in decades.

Same here, so no big deal. I access my SDB only every other month or so, anyway.

That policy started last week (I believe) at the bank my wife works at. I personally haven't been to a bank to do a bank transaction in years. My wife does all the banking since she works there. I haven't used an ATM in even longer. I have a safe for my coins so no safety deposit box for me. Working second shift I don't carry cash or credit cards as I walk to work in the afternoon and walk home around 1:00AM or so, sometimes later. I bring my lunch/supper and break snacks all from home in my duffle bag as I have been doing since I was in school.

Only a note on door that stats if you have symptoms to stay out and use drive thru.

My local grocer had a sick and sneezing cashier. I did not know until checked out. I was PO'D

Absolutely. Makes perfect sense. If you had your deed in the box and sold your house and the transaction got delayed, the bank could be on the hook for a LOT of loot.
Your SDB contents are ...your... property.

Can that be thwarted? Yep. in 1933.

Don't keep EVERYTHING in the bank. ;)

That’s what we’re looking at too. No drive through.

Hey our old school drive in theater is still open. Many a night we’d load the kids up in my hatch back mustang, the kids would fall asleep in the back. Ran around at intermission and played on the playground.

In many ways I’m starting to like this..... people may have to play cards and find other means of entertainment other than a casino 😁. Now if they bring back 90% and go back to the phone on the wall I’m set, you never can get away anymore 🤨. Maybe a blessing teaching people what really matters. We’ll see😇

I’m a collector rather it’s albums or year sets. This is my get away hobby not my living. It gets to be work when your investing fora profit but really time takes care of that as well usually. I don’t have to worry about when to buy or sell.

Anchorage is now locked down till end of March. Wonder if the Mayor will extend it? When will the State go lockdown? Will I ignore it and go to work anyways? After all I got bills to pay and I feel fine! B)
