Counterstamp on British Crown; hurts or helps value?

Appears to be an “MB” stamped onto the portrait as shown.
Assuming it was done by a merchant, etc., and not by any legal authority.

Does this add anything to the value, or is it more like pmd?

    In this specific instance, I would be O.K. with the coin. The small size of the stamp is good - it does not detract very much.

    I wouldn't pay more to get the counterstamp and would not expect much price concession from the seller either.

    If nothing else, I love the rich old patina it has, from being in that envelope for decades.

    I would consider it to be a mutilated coin and would discount it heavily. I suspect many/most dealers would as well. Think like a dealer. Buy like a dealer.

    Yes, if the counterstamp could be identified, then the money would get better. As it is, it is a decent coin.
