1984 D penny! Why does it weigh 2.7 grams.

Is this an experiment or thick rolled or thin rolled??

    The tolerance is +/- .10 gms for copper plated zinc, so up to 2.60 is normal. Since your scale only weighs to 0.1 gm, your coin could be as low as 2.65 and still show 2.7 (assuming it's calibrated). So maybe it's slightly heavier, but that's not enough to add any value. Not an experiment, just process variation on a high volume production line
