1957D penny BIE + funny ear

I was just looking at the penny when I notice the ear being larger than normal. I know the BIE is a die break, production wanted to prolong the die knowing that 58 would be the last year and these dies are handcraft and take lost of time to make...

That being said, I would have the tendency to say that the bulky ear is probably caused by worn die? Just a guest ....
P.S. I throw in the last picture to see what you think about what you see.......

It's a BIE as you said. These are common in U.S. Cents from the 50s. The obverse design didn't change in the following year, only the reverse. Also, dies are not handcrafted, it is a modern manufacturing process. The decision to pull a die would be the same at anytime during the year. Simple economics. The longer a die runs, the lower the costs.

I don't see anything unusual with the ear.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the design change was the reverse in 1959. Thanks for the clarification on the die.

I see BIE. I don't see anything special with the ear.

    Yes for the BIE.
Has for the ear, it was just a simple question in return for a simple answer.

    Thanks :)
