When does PCGS take images of coins when no truviews were ordered? (Image added)

PCGS took images of my coins in a recent submission for attribution. I did not order truviews. I’m not complaining. In fact, I’m thrilled that they took these. These aren’t rare coins. Instead, it is 6 Washington B reverse quarters, 5 of which are white and 1 is toned nicely, especially on the reverse. 5 of the 6 are MS 66 and the other is MS 65. Is it unusual for PCGS to do this?

If you checked the gold shield box, trueviews are standard.
Assuming, as noted above, that you didn't order TV's without knowing it....
If I was in charge of Coin Facts, I'd probably be on the lookout for submissions of under-represented varieties, or condition rarities. A good way to fill out a very useful resource with representative photos!
I would assume if they need pictures for CoinFacts they will image them... that is just speculation though.
I had a submission once where 3 of 4 coins were to be trueviewed, the 4th coin got a free ride but just a plain white background. That was before I discovered that Secure/Gold Shield was THE way to go.
Collector, occasional seller
This is the PCGS image for the toned coin. Thanks PCGS.

Does Phil still work at PCGS? Some of the new trueviews have not been to his standard.
Better them than me!
The gold shield image service is a godsend.
I am sure PCGS has an image "want list"

This is not a trueview. This image on a plain white background accurately captures the coin in hand. I had tried myself and could not get anything nearly this accurate.

That is a coinfacts image. The only difference is the background.
If you type in your cert number in the verification page the trueview with template youre used to seeing will show up.
That is a gorgeous coin.
They probably felt it deserved to be memorialized.
I have a vast wedding/sports photography background... for the cost (or free) it's soooo worth the value as a collector and eventually ebay seller.

That is not correct. I just tried it.
Hi,
Sometimes a grader will flag a coin or an entire order if they’d like images for our database and it will be sent to one of us in the department to shoot (there are 4 of us).
