This year marks 75 years since the end of WW 2.
I would have thought someone would notice.Like the US Mint
I guess no one cares.

    It won't be 75 years until September 2 when WWII ended. Hopefully, the US Mint will issue an appropriate set of commemorative coins.

    You can bet your bottom it will be commemorated in Poland, Russia and Ukraine. When I lived in the latter country May 9th was a big holiday and it was cool because you would see the veterans that helped crush the nazi vermin.

    Thank you very much for the post. I was not aware myself. But I will make sure I let my children know. Both of my grandfathers were in the war. I appreciate the post.

    Having been a toddler at the end of the war, I vividly remember the stories and celebrations - which I only came to understand years later. When I grew up, the war was a reality that adults of the time lived through - well, some did....and many had relatives who were 'over there'. The significance has dimmed, and it is no longer taught in schools today, as it was when I grew up. I fervently hope we do not see such horror again... but it is a hope without confidence.     Of approximately 16 million US veterans of WWII about 250,000 will still be living when the September 2 75th Anniversary arrives. That is about 1 in 64.

    It's not the Mint's decision to make a commemorative coin, and there's nothing on the product schedule. They could produce a medal without Congressional approval. Barring that, it looks like all we'll get is TV hucksters selling circ war nickel sets in special, limited edition 75th anniversary keepsake holders, for only three easy payments of $29.95 each, plus shipping and handling.

    I thought the number would be lower than that. Wouldn't they be in their mid to later 90's now?

    The great majority of the remaining veterans were probably teenagers when they entered the service in 1944 or 1945. The youngest ones would now be about 91 if they joined in 1945 at age 17 (born 1928). Survivors from 1941-42 are few in number now.

    Commem coins for 2020 have already been decided by the Congress (they decide.)

    Mint could do PM medal (without congressional approval) but might be a bit late.
