thanks for posting the pics. for me !!! anyone think it would upgrade to 67 ?

JBN- my challenge is I have the entire series in 70 except the 95 w and now this one. Now both the most expensive. As I was never going to sell them as this is my hobby..yes the glass is half full given the poor luck of pulling a 69 with the overall majority being 70’s at both pcgs and NGC

I am so pissed I am one of 169 people that got a 69 on what is in that box compared to several thousand 70’s. Have not seen my coin yet. Just know the score. So pissed!

Sell it to a lowball collector. :D

Do the math on this one: I have a customer who bought 3 of the Proof Eagles that were released at FUN this year and submitted them for the 1st Day FUN label. Of the 150 or so coins that were submitted that way 22 were 69's. Guess what? All 3 of his are 69's! :s

I haven't been able to find anything I need (or even want) in months.

  • MgarmyMgarmy Posts: 2,296 ✭✭✭✭✭

Aka- the math would indicate a higher chance of getting a 70 than a 69 as it stands today. Unless some dealers were able to utilize the bulk only 70 grade get encapsulated. Which would skew the results. Done crying about it. Went to a coin show and picked up a 70 of the 2008/rev 2007. So the unicorn left is the 95w.

    Assuming that the 22 69s were randomly distributed among the 150, the odds that someone gets 3/3 of them are 22/150 * 21/149 * 20/148 ~= 0.00279.

Cherrypicked it on the Bay for $41 - then comes back from PCGS MS 63 - Now worth $750. Thats why I HAD to buy it.

I'm rebuilding my CBH collection from the ground up.

No raw ebay coins for me this time around. This is the first time I've ever been able to buy "big boy coins" so all of it is new to me and I'm taking things slowly before I go for any bigger pieces.

Trying to get in touch with David Kahn for a CBH, so here's hoping he responds. Dude has a ton of fantastic pieces.

Well, finally won a Civil War Token piece at auction. Sellers pics. Why, because I thought the die breaks were interesting, liked the color, was still within my target price, and lost the other three I had bid on. I don’t know much about previous collectors of cwt, except Bowers, but one cwt I had bought a year ago was from the same collection/collector and I was very happy with the coin.

I would also like to thank everyone for contributing to this thread, so people can see a little about what the hobby is for different people.

I've been looking for 4 or 5 years to update my 1813 CBH and finally did so, not a big jump in grade (VF20 to VF35) but a large gain in eye appeal. I also replaced my Illinois (Lincoln a dark AU53) commem. with a MS64 that is brighter and matched the rest of my Commem's in my second 7070 Type set.

    What?

    Why?

Because I wanted the coin more than I wanted the money I spent.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Have been slowly upgrading my Hawaii collection. It's a short series if you ignore the patterns and tokens - only 5 coins needed. Purchased a 10c recently and upgraded my 25c/50c pieces. The dime is nicely original, PC65 CAC.

I bought an auction lot of about 20 1909 VDB Lincolns in uncirculated condition. I shipped 6 to PCGS for grading. I think one gets MS 66 Red, the other 5 get MS 65 Red or red/brown. Economy submission that should be graded by June.

    Jim

You have to ask yourself some questions. Are you keeping, selling, or grading it? Or as Clint Eastwood would ask, "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a 30,000 mintage, the most popular ASE in the world and would top your collection clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?"
