Guy offers me this coin for $2000, says it's REAL because he bought it on eBay for $1600...........Now I know who the people are that keep buying counterfeit junk on eBay and why it wont stop....he even left him positive feedback:

    Yikes - the raised rim is such a dead giveaway.
    Maybe they guy who "bought" it is just an alt for the "seller".

    I don't know, but wouldn't the eBay FVF's be like $100.......seems like alot of money to throw away.

    Offer to submit it to PCGS for him (he pays), and if genuine, you'll pay him $2500.
    If he's legit, he should jump at that.
    But I suspect he'll disappear pretty quickly.

    This is the famed "vampire variety" with two marks on Ms. Liberty's neck. These counterfeits are really getting around the Internet. They are more convincing when they have a layer of fake toning. I saw my first one, at my local club, about 10 years ago.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I had a guy come into my shop with a 1900 Indian Head Cent, in a good-4 approximate grade, stapled in a 2X2, sets it down and tells me how it's been in that holder for many years, and likely it was it looked like a vintage 2X2, he asks how much it's worth, and I gently tell him 25 cents, he quickly picks it up and says, "I had a guy offer me $50 for it!"
    I told him we had a few more he could buy for a dollar each... :D

    He left the store pretty mad. lol

    Indeed we see this stuff on a semi regular basis. I see and fully understand why some dealers drink.

    Yep... I fully commiserate with dealers...seeing this stuff come in day after day, and the attitude of the people presenting the material, certainly justifies liquid lunch and dinner...Cheers, RickO
