For anyone that has purchased a toner from Legend...

For those that have purchased a toned coin from Legend, what have you thought about their color scale? How close is the scale to your personal assessment? Do you pay much attention to it at all?

For example,
“A very pretty dollar with bands of rainbow color that we would rank an 8 on our 10-point scale.”

Maybe show us an image if you have a specific coin in mind.

I wanted to see if anyone had any general views of the scale. There is a coin I’m looking at that sold on Legend but is now for sale on another venue. I’d show it, but it is a live listing and I am considering it.

I have purchased coins from Legend and also from their auctions, but not any toned Morgans. While I appreciate them, it's not a playground I feel comfortable playing in.

As for their color scale, it's just an informed opinion, given by people who have handled their fair share of the prettiest Morgans. When it comes to paying a premium for toning, your own opinion should count for more than that of anyone else. There is a grade guarantee for the major TPGs, but nobody on the planet offers a guarantee for pretty color. To me, color premiums seem to be the most fickle part of an already fickle market.

I agree that each individual opinion is more valuable than that of someone else when it comes to deciding if the color is appealing to you.

I just wanted to see what people had to say about the scale in general (and to see how the numbers corresponded to how people felt about the coin they bought).

I have always been pleased with toned coins I’ve bought from Legend on occasion through the years. As far as descriptions I refer to my Sig line. :)

I have bought a number of toned Morgans from Legend. I think their rating scale is excellent and we are usually in agreement. I doubt I’ve disagreed more than a half point on almost anything and I’ve never been disappointed with a Morgan I won having not seen it in person first.

It wasn't described, as such, but I love the rose toning on the obverse of this coin, which fades into speckles of tangerine. It's from Legend and I believe it to be an end-of-roll toner. The reverse is booming White. Very unique and special coin to me. I love the strike, as well. I came in, under the radar, and I scooped it up. Looks great in hand, at least I think so....

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

It would be great to have several examples of coins at various Legend toning grades, like a grading set.
