wait can we go through this coins entire history. Did it go from PCGS 63 to NGC 63 to PCGS scrape back to NGC 63? Not judging just genuinely curious what the goal was with all the submissions?

I believe the goal was to enjoy the coin how the owner wanted to enjoy it

that's why I said I wasn't judging I don't care what anyone does with their money or collection. When someone posts a thread on a forum showing a common coin traveling to the TPG 4 times is it off limits to ask why they did it? I do stuff people would shake their head at all the time and don't care but I also wouldn't be offended to people asking me why.
From what I have read the coin was in an NGC63 holder; cracked and sent to PCGS where it received the details grade; then just sent back to NGC where it again graded MS63.

I collect toned lincolns and if u based value off price guide a lot of people on here would look at me being crazy if they saw that I have a set I’m assembling in pcgs holders with images. That’s my way of enjoying them. I take pride in buying what I like and protecting them how I like. I believe @basetsb is doing just that.
I saw some comments about sending it across the street. It’s about the same thing as me sending something to pcgs to get graded when ngc doesn’t grade it. It’s just a way and I don’t believe it’s wrong unless it’s something very wrong. Of course this part of comment may get buried. Keep doing what you like @basetsb

I bought it in the original NGC holder. I wanted it in my PCGS registry set because it looks amazing and funny to me and the way it look is rare, so I sent it to PCGS thinking there would be no issue. It graded details because I guess PCGS grades marks on a coin differently? The registry set doesn't give full credit to details coins. So I said screw it and sent it back to NGC through a LCS of mine so that it would be in a slab. It took him a long time to get it back because he was waiting for a bulk sub. I just got it back and he waived the fees for me because of how long it took. There is your story.
No intent to be tough. Just pointing out that at that (or even the next grade level), the cost of grading and postage would be more than any added value to the coin. But as another poster pointed out, what matters is if you’re happy with it. Enjoy.
Seriously? What is $30, $50 in this world? In the US, almost nothing. Enjoying a hobby you have to spend money, there is nothing wrong with getting a coin graded that does not have much value, it is a very inexpensive way to enjoy numismatics. Better than grading a $2K morgan that is then going to drop in price over the next few years and you lose a heck of alot more, IMO..........

All I see is a coin with problems that PCGS called correctly so you send to ngc to get a straight grade. This just about says it all about the hobby (to some) and ngc.
Do you say the same about the hobby and PCGS when NGC details coins get into straight grade PCGS holders ? Or do you cover your eyes and pretend otherwise when that happens?
I have never had that happen. Actually I have never even tried to do that. The thing is that there is a reason PCGS is # 1.
It happens. Accept the fact, or don't- it's up to you.
PCGS could make a public statement saying that they make mistakes and dimeman would refute it; he is that immersed in the koolaid.
It's not koolaid……..it's a fact! PCGS is better that ngc!
This comment got my wheels turning a little. So, is PCGS non CAC still better than NGC CAC or does the NGC CAC trump the PCGS non CAC?

Thread hijack. Sadly; many threads often devolve into CAC discussion. Maybe make a new thread?

Okay that makes sense so someone crossed it from PC to NGC before you owned it that was the step I was most confused by. Now explain how it was stored to get a wizard hat

Yes, seriously. Initially, I asked why the coin was submitted for grading. Sometimes the answer is a registry set, uniform holder, desire for added value, etc. In this case, the answer I received was "because it looks cool". Another poster and I both thought it would also look cool out of a holder. And in addition to pointing out that money could have been saved, I replied, in part "But as another poster pointed out, what matters is if you’re happy with it. Enjoy." So I don't see that we really disagree.

I doubt it also. I said it with "tongue in cheek", but there isn't a symbol for that. I do know for a fact from experience that crossing from ngc to PCGS usually cost me a point in grade. Not all the time, but a lot. When I bid on ngc coins I bid it at 1 point lower unless I am absolutely sure it will cross at grade.

The ultimate prank would be to walk @DIMEMAN collection through NGC and return it before he noticed it was missing.
Expensive to undertake, but PRICELESS!
They would all upgrade, but would be useless to me in the Registry. Plus they would not be graded correctly any more.
What's your point!

My guess would be more downgrades than upgrades.
