Surprised ice hockey isn’t on there considering it’s pretty popular in the US, Canada, all of Europe and Russia.
Nevermind just realized they combined field and ice into the same category.

Well we all knew soccer was #1.

I wouldn't have guessed cricket at #2 or even thought about it at all?

Could those numbers be skewed to whatever agenda is behind the scenes? I’m serious too, Cricket #2? Really?

I think cricket has always been popular in England and Australia.

I don't care about the World. Only 4 on my list and #'s 3 & 4 are playoffs only.

    NFL
    Tennis
    NBA
    MLB

I wonder if boxing would've been on the list say 30 years ago? Greats like Ali and Duran, among others were popular worldwide.

Agree. Seems like the greatest city to live in is always Cincinnati or Omaha.

Much like the sheer population of China lifting the BkB number, I'm sure India is largely responsible for the cricket boost.

I have no idea what the yell is going on, but they sure sold a lot of tickets to it. LOL

Let's face it, soccer never caught on in the US because when we played it in P.E. class it was so
the coach could get some quality nap time and it amounted to a group of boys in a circle
all trying to kick a soccer ball at the same time but only succeeding in kicking each other (very painfully)
in the shins about half a dozen times each.

Does not surprise me to see Basketball towards the top of the list.

For many reasons hoops has ever increasing global appeal.

If you think about cricket you may slip into a coma. Try to avoid it in the future

I figure there can't be too much money in that sport if the outfielders can't even afford to buy gloves.

11-25 remaining list of popular sports

    1. Boxing: Boxing was once among the top 5 most popular sports in the world, but its popularity has decreased over the years. Still, it is widely followed by the boxing enthusiasts around the world and major competitions are regularly held in the US and European countries.

I went back and looked at the list. Rugby and American football are tied at #9 with 410 million fans apiece. Which means Golf actually falls out of the top 10 at #11.

Keep in mind that there are large swaths of Africa and the Middle East where there are no televisions so after giving this a little more thought, Soccer could potentially be even more popular

So we can create a more popular sport than the NFL and MLB simply by having Taylor Swift play a game of jacks with Kim Khardashian in China while ESPN the Ocho does a simulcast in India. Look out soccer, here we come!
