Ebay is charging sales tax on coins and bullion when my state has repealed all such taxes

I believe this move by Ebay is totally illegitimate and I can't believe more people aren't flipping their lids about this. If you're state has sales tax on coins, Okay fine, but what about all the states that don't? They're tacking on $90+ in taxes for a 1 oz AGE...I mean really! Anyone have any insight on how to get Ebay to fix it or where it's going?

So far, knock on wood I haven't had them try to charge me in Ga. for coins. They do charge me sales tax on their shipping supplies.

I do get charged tax for shipping supplies and that is correct because they are office supplies and not something for resale unless of course, you sell shipping supplies :D

Just to make it interesting, Connecticut is having a sales tax holiday August 18-24. Massachusetts is having a sales tax holiday from August 17-18th. Not sure how many other states do similar things.

The exceptions and exclusions are unreal. I can't imagine Ebay getting this right.

Opportunity, I flipped my lid months ago about this; also blew my stack and was so flecked with rage the veins of my neck were literally bulging. Time for a class action.

Contact ebay. They can't legally collect sales tax unless a state charges it. If it's an error, they'll fix it.

No one here can fix it.

    What state?

eBay collects all the time on purchases that should not be taxed for me as a Californian.

Cancel the sale if you still can or get reimbursed from your state.

If you were charged sales tax on exempt items you can always correct it on your state income tax return in the use tax section, simply claim a credit for the amount of sales tax you paid that your state has exempted. This is not a big deal.
