I wasn't able to make it to the Long Beach Show, but typically, Stacks/Bowers will bring their next auction items to shows. Frankly, even if the coins are viewable at shows, I'd really like to see a complete listing of the auction, so I can pick out the lots that I would like to see, instead of going coin-by-coin through box after box. (I really hate doing that; especially when I get to a lot I'm interested in, just to find a place-holder card because the lot is of high value and stored separately!)
I saw some of the highlights of this sale in Chicago. Not too surprising was my favorite “stuff” was from the Cardinal Collection.

Holy crap. I’ve never seen so many things that tickled my fancy in the Rarities Night. I have a short want list and they are all there.

I agree---there are multiple auctions always coming up. Most people have a finite amount to spend and the quicker you can post upcoming lots the better chance someone will hold off on another coin to bid on a coin in the "preview"
As you have pointed out, we recently introduced our auction preview functionality. Currently, we have limited our use to the three specialty (and extremely exciting) collections mentioned, but for future auctions we will expand our previews and post highlights on a much more regular basis.
Thank you. Brian. I look forward to the day when there is more time ahead of your auctions for preview. as Gazes pointed out, with auctions galore and other multiple sales going on it helps to have as much time as possible to make decisions.

i have made other purchases recently that if they posted their complete upcoming auction a bit earlier i may have set aside money for it. Heritage and Legend do a good job of getting their coins for upcoming sales posted early so you can plan accordingly
We have some sessions online now and expect to have everything posted by early next week. Sessions will go up incrementally between now and early next week. We are really excited about the sale and have great items and collections in all categories of US, ancient and world coins, US and world paper money and tokens and medals. I appreciate your interest and please bear with us for a couple more days!

originally the lots were to have been viewable on July 16th but that was changed to the 23rd for some reason. I will agree that a bit over two weeks of preview is pretty tight, but I manage. more would be better.

My advice is to try harder to get the coins posted earlier. If i am buying an expensive coin, there is a better chance that it will happen if i have sufficient time to make sure my finances are in order.

lol...possibly you are right but they do send me their catalogs for major auctions. When you consider that Heritage has had their catalog up for quite awhile and Legend already has coins up for a Sept auction----giving someone who would bid on five figure coins just 3 weeks to prepare (i.e reaearch the coin, view the coin, decide priority between their coins and others interested available, etc) it becomes easy to just bypass their auction unless there is a "must have" coin.

Finances not the problem for many.
If you want to view coins in hand for a (major) auction, you have 3 choices.
Mail.
Visit the auctioneers office.
Attend the sale.
If coins are not listed until 2-3 weeks ahead of time it is very hard to view them. Especially during summer when many have made vacation plans. #1 and #2 out. #3 would take an increasingly hard change in plans.

It generally costs me an extra 5% ( auction representation ) if I can’t view them myself in the short window they expect us to bid and research in. It sucks.

despite all of this, I still manage to buy from Stack's. I have learned to prepare as needed and to be patient. they have improved over the years and strike me as being receptive to our criticism and suggestions.

taking a quick look at the Commem's shows a few that are really, really nice, including an MS67 Monroe. considering all the 63/64's I've seen it is hard to imagine one this colorful and clean. I think I'll look at the Walkers but doubt I can compete at these price levels. maybe, with some luck, I can live vicariously through Mark!!!

I'd like a more robust ANA Auction preview as well. All that I've seen so far was this online brochure that was published on June 1st:

Hard to make plans Martin as we both like to see coins in hand. Suspect this won't change soon. -)

I could have sworn I saw something that said the ANA lots would be listed today, but I still don't see them.
FYI for those that haven't seen, the ANA lots are finally available for viewing online.
I spent some time checking out the lots today. I just do not see anything that I need.

Update for 2019.

I wonder how the consignors feel about the delay in posting auction lots?
