In one safe you keep a couple 1924 double eagles, a bag of junk silver, some mint sets. In another you hold the big kahuna. After safe number #1, do you think they’ll ask if there are any other safes in the house?
Safety deposit boxes are not safe. They are seizable. Lord's knows one day they may even be taxable. I live in the country...I have bid dogs and big guns. I know I sound like a paranoid nut but I don't trust banks nor the gov'ment
That sounds like too much work. I've have SDB's for over 40 years with no problems at all. I'll stick with them.
Home safe - they have all day work with it if your not there or for that matter haul it off. Armed robbery could be problem as stated by other posters. Online data makes it easy for them find out where u live. Plus: available 24/7. Having a true mancave (for safe) like bottom floor (like basement, no windows) like stilt house in LA hills friend (Jay) has helps. He says “it’s only place I really feel secure - my safe (with coins), numismatic library, guns, computer, whiskey, couch, LED desk light (hates bright light), and quiet.”
SDB - Pain in rear to have get coins that sell online. Can be subject to flood damage (Houston / hurricane Ike) or robbery / theft - recall bank in NJ where burglars came in thru roof. When bank closed or shut down (storm damage for instance) you can’t get to it.
Hugh woods insurance / combo of both is one option. Also keep low profile - don’t use real name on business business cards - stage name or business name.
Many strip clubbers (and sugar dating hobbyists) like Jay use stage name / burner (hobby) phone, transactions cash only / not bad idea for coin people either. They also stay off social media or use fake acct w stage name. Otherwise criminals / rabid sleuths can take your phone number find out where u live / stuff about you. The corporations don’t care about you or your privacy and even more disgusting make money from those who would violate it.
