NEWP: I don't normally buy lower grade coins...toned Mexican Pillar 2 Reales

What a cool piece of history!!

I saw that at the same time when they were selling a Santiago 2 reales with some crazy colours. The Santiago piece was low grade too but both had great toning. Congratulations!

Generically, most Mexico pillar 2R are available in average to low circulated grades. Not necessarily common but not rare either. However, quality for the grade pieces are much harder to find than comparable US (Drapped and Capped Bust) coinage. There appear to be very few nice circulated pieces like this one.

The Mexican Cap & Ray is on my short list if I decide to add another series. Currently, I only own a single MS-61 4R and MS-64 8R. I'd like to start with a high quality type set and then focus on the 4's. However, not enough coin budget and though generically more common than pillars by denomination, not very many really nice coins either.

I saw the coin in the Stacks auction. I was interested in many of the 4R but didn't want to spend the money.

Most of the few graded coins in this series are in NGC holders. I haven't seen too many in PCGS plastic.
