1865 Suez Canal Token

My first acquisition of a details graded coin. These tokens are uncommon. They were used by workers building the Suez Canal. I'm okay with the lacquer. It doesn't detract from the coin. I have a 20 Centimes piece, too.

    Would acetone help remove the lacquer or is the coin doomed with a details grade?

    The lacquer is not a deal breaker for me, either, but I also wonder if acetone would help.

    Acetone would remove lacquer with no problems. Remember to use it in well ventilated area. Rinse with distilled water after.

    I may break it out and see what acetone can do with the coating. I don't think the chemical will hurt the token and it could remove the lacquer. My 20C piece is certified, too, so I may resubmit this one after conserving.

    Actually you might be surprised if you remove the lacquer. It is great at preserving copper.
