I’m getting the hang of this.

I’ve had my detector for about a year now, but I have been using it more often since the winter thaw. I’m starting to differentiate the tones pretty good now, learned the discriminator settings etc.
Finding coins has been a snap but I have been anxiously waiting to find my first piece of jewelry, even if it is junk. Well today was the day and I found 2 pieces! One fake silver ring, and this gold and diamond pendant. It’s junk jewelry but I was pretty psyched to unearth it. Now my detecting bucket list consists of finding my first Buffalo Nickel, my first Indian Head Cent and my first silver coin. I am chomping at the bit to get back out there now!!!

    Well done... and I can see you are excited.... Those silver coins will come... try a little research on the areas you select to search... Lots of records available at the library, or, in many cases, online for a particular area. I look forward to your finds now that the weather is accommodating... Cheers, RickO

    That pendant is pretty cool! Is it stamped? Looks like it could be a few grams.
    I haven't swung a coil in a couple of years now... I need to get back at it, it really is enjoyable most of the time.

    You called that pendant 'junk jewelry'....and well it may be...just wondering how you confirmed that diagnosis. Cheers, RickO

    No markings or stamps on it. Many scratches on the back reveal a silver alloy underneath the gold shell. I’m still happy to have found it. Climactic start to finding the real stuff. Haha.

    Went back to the same place I found the jewelry this morning. 7 pennies, 4 quarters and 3 nickels.

    That is a good day for change....that site seems to be loaded with coins.... was it a park or a commerce site?? Cheers, RickO

    @ricko
    It’s a park with a couple of soccer fields and a baseball diamond. I did a lot of wanding around the side lines and the entrance gate.

    @Downtown1974....Well that would explain a lot of loose change.... Probably more to find.... Thanks for the reply. Cheers, RickO

    Don't forget to get under the bleachers. Here the school district has a series of athletic fields all with four tiered aluminum bleached seating units. I tip them back and find everybody's loose change. Easy pickings! Peace Roy

    Bleachers.. the open kind... are great for searching underneath..... Field sidelines or picnic areas can also be productive. Cheers, RickO

    My wife felt bad watching me suffer through ruining a hand spade garden shovel every week so she took care of that for Fathers Day. She also didn’t like the way I just piled all of the equipment in my truck, so she got me a bag as well. She takes good care of me. :)
    Happy Fathers Day all!!!
