Abandoned registry sets question

I’ve noticed a lot of registry sets that don’t look like they have been active in a long time. Do you think they should go through and close them out if they have been inactive for years?

    It would be quite discouraging to finally catch that upgrade that you've been searching for only to discover that your set has been deleted.

    Nah. As long as that person owns the coins, the registry IS active!

    I hope they keep an eye out for sets/owners who generate a lot of "please remove this coin from their set...I own it now!" Maybe after 3 or 4 of those....then retire it....

    Sometimes it might take months to year(s) just to find a certain coin.

    Some coins take awhile to get authenticated, graded, and entombed... think world/ancient coins.

    Interesting tidbit in the FAQ.

    “You can take as long as you wish to build a set. However, if your set is less than 10% complete and has not been updated within one year, it will be marked unpublished and can not be published again until it has been updated.”

    I know for a fact that if you miss 1 removal request PCGS will remove your set! It happened to me on a coin I improved and forgot to remove my previous coin. Thankfully I was able to get PCGS to reinstate my set.

    You can contact PCGS to get it released. They do the tracking down.

    Maybe the sponsor should add little images of dandelions, thistles and other weeds to the abandoned/dormant sets? Possibly add some rusty stuff -- like rusty double eagles being touted as an astronomical event?
