which major collection will be sold first

There are some major collections that will be huge events when they are sold. Which major collection--Hansen, Tyrant, or Simpson will be first to be sold? If you know of other collections in this ballpark feel free to include them.

I think you have to include Bender and Link. I think High Desert could create some excitement.
My 20th Century Gold Major Design Type Set ---started : 11/17/1997 ---- completed : 1/21/2004
excellent---throw them in the mix. Also, whose collection will be off the market the longest is fair game too.
They could go to a museum and never be sold

Hansen and Tyrant will most probably not be sold during our lifetime. Simpson is possible but not probable.
Hmmmm...maybe the "The Type Set"??? I'm sure there would be a lot of interest in that!
Why not? Do they have people to pass the collections on to?

Oh please, don't we already have enough good stuff buried in museums - some of which is either neglected and/or never sees the light of day.

technically the OP is which collection will be the first to be sold---if it goes to a museum than it is not sold.
Also, I agree with 2nd Charter that it seems that collectors are often better stewards of coins than museum bureaucrats.
Not Delloy-he has some trust or museum or something.
Simspon-NO WAY.
Tyrannt, doubtful too. I would not be surprised if he donates it to something up by where he lives.
Bass yes, but I don't like the apparent shroud of secrecy it is being handled with. I'd love to bid on it.
The biggest unknown collection-the guy w/6 Ultra High Reliefs and J-1776 just to mention a few coins-he has put them in trust for his grand kids.... Damn I have the wrong blood lines.
THE TYPE SET-hell no, he is buying again.
I vote Bender.
I think Link will have a Masoluem built with the worlds largest coin cabinet. He has a baby, who he told me loves to play w/slabs, so it sounds like he is breaking the kid in....
I'd like to see Anton.

I vote whoever dies first....

Major private collections are little better than museums as far as access. Museums allow examination and research, and post public displays - most private collections, especially the "big" ones, are locked away from everyone.
when you actually pay for something, it usually means more to you. Private owners generally are proud to show their prized possessions. Tyrant's exhibitions are first class. Hansen is allowing us to watch us build his collection. When private collections are sold (like Pogue) we have beautiful catalogs and chances to view the coins first hand. Finally, when private collections are sold even if we dont have the funds to purchase the whole collection, often we have a chance to own a piece of the collection.
Interesting to reread my OP and this thread now that the Type set is selling
Museums allow examination and research, and post public displays
Since this thread has come back up, I'll respond to this comment. I could name several museums that have significant numismatic holdings that never see the light of day and, unless you are very well connected, you can't get to see them. One of them is right here in South Carolina.

Things change - there was a local guy who was going to give the bulk of his art collection to the Seattle Art Museum - when he passed, the heirs apparently thought differently and they auctioned it off for $330 million.
Ha, you knew more than me back then ! However we only sell parts of it and keep the key coins.
Interesting to reread my original thread now that Simpson is selling half his collection.
My plan is to have a museum dedicate a room to my art collection to be on permanent display with the room dedicated to myself and my wife. I live in a mid size city always begging for exhibits.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
I have know idea.
Simspon-NO WAY.
Oops!
