Ebay -- What would you do?

djmdjm Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭✭✭

Had an $800 item returned as defective. The postman left me a notice that the item was sent postage due $96. Would you pay the postage, get the item and issue a refund, or not get the item and not issue the refund as it was never properly returned, or something else

Wow! That buyer needs to be blocked. What is the Bay’s or PPal’s policy on this?

It has not been delivered if there is postage due is my thinking.

Sounds like a scam in the making...

Could you pay the $96 and deduct it from his return? Return postage is always on the buyer.....I thought.

Dear God, if only that were true.

Return postage is almost always on the seller, unless the buyer is extra kind.

I know what eBay will say, they will protect the buyer and say to pay the $96 it's my responsibility to accept the return.

$96 is a lot of postage for $800 even registered. Express with thousands+ insurance is less then $96.

Was this a coin or something else that actually weighs more than a few ounces?

$96 postage??? I'm trying to figure out how it could be so high? What was the item, a 70 pound rock?

  • coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,464 ✭✭✭✭✭

how much did you pay to ship it to the buyer?

    A. Not necessarily
    B. But if so - you have no choice no matter what we bozos tell you to do.

If you refuse delivery and eBay won't allow it, you could be out the money and the item

You're not going to find the magic answer you want here.

    Call eBay...

There appears to be a flaw in the return process.

    If someone buys something.

Returns to seller with seller paying return shipping costs. Regardless of shipping costs.

The buyer puts some lead weights in the package with the returned item.

Buyer adds in extra insurance cost, up to maximum allowed by the PO, and...

Adds restricted adult signature required, and...

Adds Sunday delivery, and whatever else there is available.

Seller is still on the hook to pay for the returned item’s shipping cost as postage due.

If so, then this is a perfect way to put sellers out of business.

There has to be a counterbalance.

50 LBS.....that explains the $96 postage. What is the reason for return?

I can't refuse the delivery if no attempt has been made to deliver the item.

The post office should never have accepted a 49lb package with 1 oz postage paid.

Once you figure out shipping be sure to video opening the package to cover yourself from potential return fraud.

...produce the 50 pound coin via pictures immediately please...and stupid is, as stupid does in regards to buyers, sellers and eBay ;)

To add insult to injury, Paypal will no longer refund the fee that you paid them when you issue a refund.

    Good luck.

  • amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

He's got 4 days until that goes into effect.

That can't happen if they handle the return through eBay.

That could happen, in theory, with a chargeback through PayPal.

Not an eBay problem, it's a people problem.

Hate for it to be you or anyone, actually, but this is/will be a good case study. Let us know how it goes in the long run.

eBay is the one who issued the return label for 1 ounce on a 50 pound item! So they are totally clueless. The Post Office should not have accept a Large Package that weighs 50 pounds with a 1 ounce First Class Label.

Is your default weight in the listing 1 ounce?
