Why I still rip vintage...

One of the great joys of collecting for me is ripping packs. Always has been. Always will be. While packs are no longer measured in cents, I still enjoy it immensely even if it’s not profitable. Getting the “hits” regardless of potential grade is still a huge thrill. There are more busts than booms, but on those rare occasions when the stars align, there are few greater thrills. I ripped a bunch of packs on my birthday as I do every year. While baseball didn’t treat me too well (those 700+ sets can be tough), football did...especially since Tony Dorsett is one of my registry projects. These recently popped and I’m pretty stoked...though I thought Montana was an 8 (he may take another trip)...the Dorsett 9 was a nice score, and I still needed a nice 79, so a pack pulled 8 was great. Still have a few cards in another sub and anxiously awaiting those results.

Nice pulls. I would be thrilled with those. I can't believe you pulled a Montana rookie, and a Dorsett rookie and a Rice rookie. Nice job.

Hiya Jim - that's some really nice picks!

How many packs of each did you open?

I would never be that lucky - if only 1 pack per. Really nice Dorsetts.

One pack of 78. One 79. One 81. All wax. The Rice came from Grocery Rack. Hockey yielded some early 80s OPC Gretzky’s that are still out for grades. Baseball was a bummer. 77, 78 and 80.

    Awesome, huge hits.

I wholeheartedly agree that the act of pulling a big rookie from an issue is all the juice I need. I don’t play in your space, but those are pretty incredible FB pulls!

Great hits for sure. That 79 Dorsett looks undergraded along with the Rice. Love seeing those 70s/80s slabbed.

    Thanks,

You need to buy a lottery ticket. Chances of what you did are probably higher than winning the lottery.

Great hits, man! All those cards are iconic. I have moved over into collecting vintage (70's-80's) cello/ wax but can't come to opening them....yet.

I agree. '78 football is a bit underrated in my opinion. Centering can be very tough.
