Milwaukee Bucks history

I heard on the radio that the Bucks will be going for their 60th win today. Would be first time for their franchise since '80-81. My question is can anybody, without looking it up, name their starting of the 1980-81 team!? I think I could come up with one or two. Lol. Curious what you smart sports fan can come up with!? I should add that people that live in Milwaukee have to wait to chime in. :)

I'll guess Bob McAdoo and that is probably incorrect.

Well it McAdoo never played for the Bucks.

I did see favorite Center though.

I could name several Brewers but sorry don't think I could name a single Buck.

Milwaukee Bucks.……….are you sure they are in the NBA? ;)

Brian Winters, Junior Bridgeman, Bob Lanier, Sidney Moncrief, and Marques Johnson is my guess.

Marques Johnson was there a long time, along with Sidney Moncrief. I thought Bridgeman came off the bench. Winters was the 2 guard, but drawing a blank on the point guard. I didn't remember but I think about post with Lanier at center is right, but not totally sure.

Lanier, Quinn Buckner, M Johnson and Bridgeman is what I remember

Buckner PG, Moncrief SG, Winters SF, Johnson PF, Lanier C. Mickey Johnson also started at PF, with Bridgeman off the bench.

The only one I would get is Sidney Moncrief, and that is because I just finished reading that he will go into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.

    Pretty good work.

As a big UCLA fan I am embarrased I forgot about Marques Johnson. Speaking of whom, by the way, squeezed down a dunk last week on his 63rd birthday

Moncrief and Winters were who I had been thinking of.

    Pretty good squad.

The Bucks won 5 straight division titles during this period. They were good

Marques Johnson just had his jersey number (8) retired at the new Fiserve Forum a couple weeks ago. He does TV commentary now for the Bucks, and is pretty good at it. Nice to have him back in Milwaukee. I have him as a starter on my all-time Bucks team (Kareem, Oscar, Sydney, and now Giannis are the others).

Don Nelson traded him to the Clippers for Terry Cummings, Ricky Pierce, and Craig Hodges.

Who remembers Paul Mokeski of the Bucks back in the day?

I remember him with the Pistons in his first year. Don’t remember how they got him. I don’t think they drafted him. Mokeski was a 7 footer out of Kansas. Went to the Bucks shortly after. Played with them in the early/ mid 80’s. He had a porn mustache.

I do remember that the Pistons traded Bob Lanier to Milwaukee for Kent Benson and a #1 pick. The Pistons used that pick to draft Larry Drew who was just bounced as the coach of the Cavs today.

Kent Benson was the first pick/Milwakeee in the NBA draft in 1977 after Indiana’s perfect season. ( beat my Wolverines in the finals). Benson had a forgetful NBA career.

the Bucks were my favorite in the late 60's and early 70's. then along came Girls and my Uncle until 1980. I think I went almost 20 years without watching an NBA game until the early 1990's.

My memory of Kent Benson in college was when he was a senior. Indiana played Purdue. Purdue had a freshman center named Joe Barry Carroll (who was a sophomore at my high school when I was a senior; he played center on the sophomore team and I played center on the varsity team; his hoops career was much better than mine LOL). During the game Carroll made a play where he dunked over Benson. The dunk was one where the defender was absolutely helpless and got humiliated. Benson was posterized.

During his pro career I vaguely remember Benson challenging Kareem in a game to a fight. Benson had no chance in defending against Kareem and he decided to try to challenge him to a fight instead. I think Kareem punched Benson in the face.

Worst punch in the face was Kermit Washington smashing Rudy T.

Big Mo. Don Nelson loved big men. Would have played 5 at a time if possible.

In 1977 the Bucks had 3 picks out the first 11! Kent Benson (1), Marques Johnson (3) and Ernie Grunfeld (11). At least they got one pick right. Could have taken Jack Sikma. Really a pretty weak draft when you look back at the entire first round picks.

I certainly remember the "fight" with Kareem. Benson had no idea he gave him an elbow in the sweet spot. It was the highlight of his career in the NBA.
