Try this: Adjust the size the picture on your phone to Actual Coin Size and try to see the scratch.
That's not a worthless coin imo.
I had a rough time finding the scratch till I magnified it.

You are not alone! I'll bet 70% of the older folks I deal with could not see that scratch and 5% of them couldn't see it if I told them exactly where to look! One of my coworkers tells folks to get their eyes checked every year. I think the main problem is folks don't rotate the coin when they examine it.
Reminds me of this coin. Yes, it's proof-like, frosted and a 64D but there's also a long diagonal scratch on the coat. Does it really grade MS64 or MS63 if I had an opinion? The strike is not all that impressive so a lot could be said about the dies they put into use that created the two qualities mentioned above and why I like this coin.
But it shouldn't grade any higher if at all.......sheesh!

I apologize for not having a closeup........something I never really gave much thought to. lol
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Maybe the graders are just really old. Good point!
I actually like the coin, but could never bring myself to buy it as a 66.
I’m not sure all the posters in this thread are seeing the scratch. Obverse, right side.
I had an xf40 with a scratch like that that I was worried would not grade.

I don't like it, but I have seen scratched coins similar to this one with CAC stickers. Go figure!
Of course the grade also matters. Even assuming a straight grade is okay, putting it in a 66 holder is absurd.

Yes, many are old and really experienced. I wouldn't buy it either even if the price were fair.
