Because it's not a Morgan and IMO is PL. It was graded back before NGC expanded the PL designation beyond Morgan Dollars. I'm actually sending it in for a regrade.

Interesting question- I decide where to send my coins to depending on the coin itself, the rarity, condition, and other factors (such as countermarks). I also think there are two perspectives, the Dealer/ commodity value one and the collector/ personal value one. There are perceptions in the market that certain TPGs add value due to their slab, but most of my coins are "collector" examples and fit just fine in any of the 4 top tier TPG’s holders. In this current market the guarantees are important in my mind- both for authenticity as well as proper variety identification, which I believe PCGS is the only one to cover both; I actually care less about the grade as I rarely agree with the label grade anyway…

the question is best answered looking at heritage , great collections , ebay and lots of other selling venues including shows. PCGS coins typically are the most liquid and often sell for more then the other top tier TPG. If your intent is to sell a coin and it has reasonable value PCGS makes sense. If your just adding to sets selectively buying a good for grade and issue well researched coin any holder is often a rational path, but resale is a factor eventually. Myself as more of a common man collector have 80% of my core collection in PCGS holders , opinions and perspectives will vary as they should.

They all do a good job eliminating most problem coins.
For value, it probably depends on the series.
Best thing to do is look at the coin in the PCGS price guide and check recent auctions.
Most people will logically go where the money is the most...
