1923 Peace dollar, so I thought, turns out to be a 1928.

A couple of days ago a friend asked me to check out his peace dollar which at first he thought was a 1923.
So did I by glancing at it, until he asked me to look closer.
turns out to be a 1928. A huge Bonus IMO. And there appears to be no mint mark.
Feebay says the 1928 are worth a few bucks more than others.
As we are both not seriously in to US coins, I took pictures and we are wondering if you guys would like to make some comments as to grade and any other observations. Is it worth to have it graded?
Looks like it is a very weak strike on both sides.
thank you all for helping out.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life

It looks like a 1923 to me.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Can be tough to tell from photos for sure, and I see plenty of 1923's listed as 28 on ebay. (and bid as such.)
I concur with Mr. Feld.
It’s not even necessary to look at the date to know that it’s a 23, not a 28. The two issues have very different looks.

28's have a beveled rim if I'm not mistaken

That's a nice Un-circulated 1923 Peace dollar. That coin is missing die lines that would be present be they swirl lines, die lines from the B in liberty, swirl of die marks in the lower part of the E in liberty.
That's my opinion and others may differ, but the 8 in 28 has the serif of a 3 on the top of the digit.
Like I said very nice MS original 1923 with "stuff" between the serifs, although easier no one needs to see that date as a 1928 show me the B and E in Liberty just like that picture above showing the 3, next show me Ms Liberties hair specifically the fold where it looks like it's waving in the breeze.
all you need is one out of three 1/3 of the diagnostics on that coin in order to be a 1928 and you have none
I agree with others here; it's a 1923.
Sorry, it's a 23. @Soldi nailed it.

it looks like a 1923 to me as well. jmo
Looks to be a 1923 to me. Good looking coin though.
Gee, first time I've seen a discussion like this.
To answer your question. DO NOT have it graded!
Oh man;now I need to go through the peace Dollar books I bought to be sure my 28s are actually 28s 😳
So what if others have not? Why not post a link to the previously discussed coin in question. If the topic bores you so much why don't you just pass over it.
Please do and when you are finished pouring over them let me know your findings. Aside from reading the date on a coin, In this case a Peace dollar oh so common, I never saw anyone with such a concern for what they were buying. Interesting the steps WE can take to prove out a coin, not this case, being altered or not by learning die markings. Don't cha think?
So, So? So what's your point? You're bored? What can we do for you? How can we make it more interesting for you?
I had fun going through my counterfeit and grading guides and refreshing my memory on this particular date. I collected them back in the day.
So sorry we bored you.
