I do not like fraud

I just canceled a $2500 Paypal payment because I felt very uncomfortable about it with many red flags.

He called me directly, to get a coin off my website.

He said he doesn't do PayPal. Wanted to give me a credit card. I said no because of chargebacks. He asked about wiring me money. I said I would call my bank.

He wants me to ship to an APO address.

The name sounds familiar, I go a search on my previous sales and find that same name did a chargeback on me a 2 years earlier, really, WTF.

I then call him back and tell him of the chargeback which he denies and I tell him I will not do the sale.

He then sends PayPal payment, WTF !!!!

With a mailing address in Germany.

I canceled the sale.

I will not put out his name on a public forum.

I will only discuss this person with other Error Coin dealers with a client looking for big SAE errors. PM if you want, error dealers only.

If it smells funny then it probably is.

I would take a wire transfer. Nothing he can do to cancel that once its sent.

Question: If you don't take credit cards, why take paypal? I've had someone scam me using paypal before, by doing a chargeback on their credit card that they used to pay via paypal.

Just make sure the funds in your account are actually from a wire transfer. There is/has been a scam going around where a bogus cheque/money order is deposited to an account, with the scammer saying it's a wire transfer. Receiver of the funds will then have them ripped away from them by their bank once they discover the fraud.

Paypal will fight on your behalf against a chargeback. As long as you follow the Paypal rules (ship to the confirmed address on file with tracking + signature for certain package values) you should be safe. Payment from a CC direct, it is very difficult (and time consuming) to fight a chargeback.

    Because paypal will cover me.

Paypal covered me on this same person to the tune of $749.99 which is under the signature tracking requirement which should have raised another red flag

Good to hear. I think the one on me was a long time ago, so maybe policy has changed some or I was not as established then or something.

There's the reason why he hates Paypal, they went after him for the $750. I'd be more curious as to why they took him back and if they devulge into that with you than make the deal......Paypal will have your back.

    You did the right thing.

Too many known and unknown reasons not to...

In the few cases I have wired money for products directly overseas. From my bank thru Deutsche Bank in NY to a bank in Pakistan. Always made me nervous despite a couple transactions each year with the company.

I have sold a few Rolex watches to a dealer on the left coast. He wired money and it was a breeze.

Thats true, but if the CC decides in the buyers favor nothing PayPal can do. Trust me it happens. They can claim all kinds of things, like defective product, fake product etc. PayPal will never tell you why because its "confidential" you'll just loose.

I was going to, he wanted my routing number and account number, but from previous dealing with that person, I wanted none of it.

He says he hates paypay and doesn't have an paypal account, then pays through paypal minutes later. All weird.

I've heard of people setting up a blind account to accept wire transfers so the sender doesn't have your real bank info.

Won't your bank know it's a wire transfer since you normally have to pay a fee to accept it?

I basically agree with ya, but why pass on a sure thing? "Probably" doesn't mean always.

I get this situation occasionally and I tell them wire transfer and shipping only to a US address. The wire transfer is guaranteed money, and they can go thru the procedure of using a freight forwarding service. I ship the item UPS or FedEx.

Most inquiries wind up not doing it, but some do, and I've never had any problem with the ones that do.
