I'm really interested in the National Collection at the Smithsonian. Maybe the ANA Collection in Denver.
Did not vote. All I can say is at the pace he is going eventually he will stop buying dupes and nicer coins then he currently has will come up for sale. I doubt he will constantly upgrade for years on end for the whole US series.
I guess some patience is in order.
Very positive and I am left unaffected.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I think overall his impact has been positive and as the excitement builds and he moves towards equaling and potentially passing Eliasberg it will be a net positive. I believe that Dell Loy has been fairly rational in most of his bidding and he does allow others to win bids against him if you are committed. There have always been monster collectors, think Pogue and Gardner and Simpson and "Greensburro" etc , who were/are difficult to compete against in auctions. There seem to always be enough coins to go around and of course many sources besides auctions where you can get first shot at coins. And the super collectors do cycle out of their sets with a 20 year periodicity it seems. That's not to say that such titan collectors don't cause headaches and disappointments for mere mortals. So I understand some of your feelings completely.
just avoid irrational bidding. If someone wants to overpay, let them.
It's a big treat seeing what those super uber collections have ....... evoking a sense of awe and wonder for such a rarity.
IMHO Good for the hobby having those in strong hands thus less flipping ...... for the next generation to see.
In a minuscule scale I managed to accept what I could possibly obtained; within my mean and happy with less ..... much much much much less
Personally I do not begrudge anyone in how they spend their hard earned wealth. Money is made to spend. This is one of the facets of capitalism. He who has the most sometimes gets the most. However, I do see your point and note your frustration.
I'm outbid on a daily basis for coins by people who either have the where withall to outbid me or have more dollars than sense.
If you're going to roll with the big boys, put up or shut up and quitcherbitchin...
Cheers
Bob
It qualifies as a numismatic historic event.
And it's happening while we are watching. That's a new thing.
ANYONE launching a collection is a positive.
Collect for yourself and your pleasure, not to compete.
I didn't vote because I didn't see the option for " Who is Mr Hansen ?"

He is puling some of these coins out of the dark and making them available for us to see in True-View.

I think it is FANTASTIC!!!
My Saint Set
There's a secret to being "able to afford."
Create a scenario where YOU can afford ANYTHING you WANT
If you can't be honest with yourself and ....want... what you can afford and can't devise a strategy to GET IT, then you won't ever be satisfied.
I’m a big fan of what Hansen is doing because he’s collecting in public so we can all tag along. The TrueViews are amazing as is the tracking thread. He’s also bringing attention to great coins that are overlooked by more specialist collectors.
Competition finds you, or more appropriately your coin. Don’t collect to compete but be aware of the competition.
It is great publicity, but also completely eliminates the possibility of top Registry placement for series specific passionate collectors of more humble means.
I will chime in for the other minnows out there.
I am a small fish in a small pond, Jefferson Nickels. When I see Hansen pass me in the registry I feel a little jealous, admittedly. I Love my Jeffersons and have spent years and $$ building my set with dedication. It is slightly frustrating to see that I can never surpass such competitive money. Variety categories are my only chance to stay in front of him and even there I see him closing the gap.

REGISTRIES..... are created to foster competition.
I collect for myself and do like to see others collections. other then that its a whatever for me. jmo
Boy you really are letting this get under your skin!
Ya can't take it witcha. Wherever you go, there you are. Don't worry, be happy. Life is like a box of chocolates. Life's a journey, not a destination.
Stuff happens, buy a helmet.

I hit the "i don't care" button, but only from the perspective of the market as it influences me. I do enjoy reading about his purchases, others' comments, so I don't think this topic is a waste of time.
This is why I am a hunter more than I am a collector (-bank roll) and will happily sell to Mr. Hansen. He must be a huge positive to the collecting community & market and only a negative to those who can't ante up...
I don't think his activity has impacted my ability to add to my core collection of early gold in a material way. But, i dabble in liberty quarter eagles and i think he has contributed to higher prices and thus greater difficulty in buying.
Aside from being a pet source of funds for some super high end dealers, Hansen is nothing to this market.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
It's just that a lot of folks are discovering they can't afford to collect coins.
They don't treat coins like other hobbies. Say...golf. where ALL the money is gone as soon as it's spent.
People still collect. It's human nature to do so.
Not competing in this registry means that Mr. Hanson has zero effect on me, or my collection. The only way his accumulation of coins can be positive for the hobby is if it receives some level of media coverage. Just because some dealers and collectors on a chat board are following his buys doesn't equal new collectors or a shot in the arm for the hobby outside of the uber high grade and ultra rarities. I can understand the frustrations for many registry participants who are being moved down by his multiple sets. I also wonder if it will result in decreased interest in the registry going forward, although I doubt it will have much effect over the long run.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I am a collector of modest means and what Hanson does has no impact on the coins that I purchase or how I complete my Registry set. To have the top Registry set does not take great grading skills, expert knowledge or outstanding ability to select the best coins. It does take lots of money and the willingness to spend to achieve results. Welcome to the world of collectors who can not afford or are not willing to spend for the top Registry set. I do hope you can still find the joy of collecting coins that are wonderful for the grade and hard to find without competing against Hanson.
It is refreshing to see some of the ego driven braggers, who Lord it up around here as the wealthy, gobbled up by the Billionaire. They are helpless in fact, as he bids more than their net worth, in a single auction. The only thing left to do is take cheap shots and hurl insults, at his massive collections.
.

What is the Coin Cabal? Also, don't feel bad, the usual braggers here don't have the bankroll to even dream of competing with the MAN mentioned in this thread.
Let's have a look at your registry. Can you post the link or the name?
So you are the number 2 set, Washington Rainbows? He is in 4th place.
voted don't care because not even sure who he was. There was a kids pop group in the 90s I believe called hanson.
He has a couple nickels that I like and 3-4 others I'd need a closer look. Most of his coins don't have a full strike so there's not much there to upgrade my collection.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
My Jefferson Nickel Collection
I don’t know if he is good or bad for the hobby per se. However, I had a number of registry sets that he demolished, and it caused me to decide to quit the registry, sell of about half of the question, and move on to other things in life. It turned out to be very positive for me.
Some nice coins in your set!!
