Are 2018 Topps Chrome Update Baseball Blaster/Value Packs worth the rip?

I collect mainly football, but I saw some 2018 Topps Chrome Update Baseball Blasters/Value Packs at the local target. I think they are all rookies. Is this worth a rip? $19.99 and $9.99 respectively.

Can any modern baseball card collectors chime in?

Not all rookies...but a lot of rookies to be sure. The majority will be no names however.

Personally, I think its a good year to snag some Chrome Update. Solid RC group even considering Acuna, Torres, Ohtani, and Andujar were all in the regular Topps Chrome set.

Seems like the biggest problem with the TCU is finding unmolested product. TCU is mostly about Soto as he wasn't in the regular Chrome and his TCU is a very popular card of his. I know Mikolas has his RC in the set, too.

If it were me, I'd start out with some hangers and see how those work out (they can't weigh the pinks). If everything looks solid I would definitely go back and clean the place out. If it's unmolested it's 100% worth it. That's just a big 'if.'

I am not familiar with molested product. I am guessing that packs/boxes can be weighed for the "hits?" The auto cards weigh more? I'm asking because I was considering buying some boxes off ebay, but is it safe to assume there is a good chance that those were already searched?

The undisclosed Target location near me (ha ha), has sealed blasters and value packs.

Are people weighing the blaster boxes to get the hits? I saw the checklist and I think all of the cards are on the same chrome stock. How do the hits wiegh more?

I am more of a basketball guy but I believe the value packs are actually the better purchase if you are gonna buy more of one or the other. They are much harder to find and they have a special pack inside that carries Pink Refractors. Around my Targets I have only seen the value packs at one Target and they sold out quickly. The Mega Boxes of Chrome Update sat for months at multiple Target locations I went to before being sold out.

I pulled the trigger and cleaned out the mystery Target in LA. I was surprised to see so many boxes and value packs this late. The Target I went to just completed a massive remodel and the sportscards were moved to a different part of the store, most of the time the cards are near the checkouts, these were on the second floor. I'm guessing that none of the other hobby degenerates found them.

I'm a football collector and occassionally dip into baseball if I see something interesting. I haven't see Topps Chrome at retail in a while so it piqued my interest.

I just opened my box - 1st one for me, so maybe that explains my surprise - and the only differences between mine and Kris's are:

he got a Beede; I got a Hoskins Red (2/25)
he got a Soto and I got an extra International Affair
our other 3 IA cards are different

Out of 28 cards, 23 were identical. I'm not complaining, just curious...
