The 1792 Au 58 escudo.

The 1791 Au 50 2 escudos

Up until 1857 Spanish escudos and reals were U.S. legal tender often substituting U.S. coins scarce during the beginning of the U.S. mint. These coins were sum of our first U.S. coins.

I have a preference for the 1776 date myself. Here's one I found on CRO's site that I was going to jump on but, unfortunately, it was sold already when I saw it.

John Agre has a few other 1776s in his inventory right now:

@Zoins that is the same seller who has the Au 58 escudos. I message them about the day I can buy it and they agree to erase it for me to buy because I am interested in buying it.

I would hold off on those. They are not that difficult to find. Look for one that really pops out at you. The second coin has a rim bump on the reverse at 6 o’clock. I would need to take a closer look at it to see if a mount may have been removed. Good idea to squirrel away some early gold!

@Colonialcoin thanks for the advice, if you have any cool escudos around $500 please share 👍
I do realy like the Au 58 1escudo over others escudos that I have looked at so far during my search.

You are welcome! Sorry but I don’t have any available at this time. You may want to post your request on the PCGS world coin forum. As I said, don’t force the issue. The coins are out there. Just be patient, find problem free material, and buy from a good dealer that guarantees their coins. I know that there is a lot of fake US gold out there. I’m not sure about the early Latin gold.

@Colonialcoin thanks for your advice, I also have this discussion on world forum too, so I get opinions from boath types of collectors. The one escudos is at the top of my list, but if there is sum thing better than this escudos I will look into it. I am also putting into consideration past auction records of these types of coins 👍.

@CaptHenway thanks for your advice but my budget is $500; if you find something that fits my budget I will put into consideration. Thanks for the recommendation anyway 😄👍
