1982 D penny, copper but condition is making it difficult to be certain it is a large date

This is one of those times I wish a coin could be cleaned. Lol. I know based on the size of the 8 and details of the rest of the coin it can be determined but I am far from experienced enough to be able to make that kind of judgement.
The one picture is using a filter on my phone that filters based on depth, but it is far from accurate I'm sure (designed to make cute pictures for people not determine anything important 😂) any advice on judging based on other markers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, you're awesome

How much does it weigh?
Since it’s a D and if it weighs about three grams then it’s a large date.
If it weighs about 2.5 then need to check for the curve (or no curve) on the 2, which is hard to do based upon your pics... ...closer to large date.
The verdigris or whatever that green stuff is distracting. Keep an eye out for a replacement.

There is NO harm in cleaning that coin. There's also little harm in throwing that coin into a smelting pot.
Look at how close/far the '2' is from the rim (and compare with the pictures @Hemispherical showed). This looks like a large date to me. But I would keep looking for a better specimen (which should be easy to find).
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
It is a large date. The easiest way to tell is that the loops of the 8 are the same size. Also, the 2 meets the base at an angle, rather than a curve.
