I would like to E-Mail you the picture of the coin for your opinion. Also should I have a real discovery coin where do I go from here.
Thanks Jim

What are you seeing? Doubled date, RPM, etc....
Have you checked the current listings for a 1904 O ?
Sure would like to see pics. What VAM experts are you talking about (got a link)

While it's possible, I'm guessing you don't. One collector has done very extensive study of 1904-O, and chances are you have one he's seen. Post some pictures here or on VAMWorld and you'll get help.

Watching with interest.
Someone needs to go to vamworld.com and look up that date and obv. varieties. Have fun! Peace Roy

Looks like it may be a well placed spot of deceptive toning. Double check to make sure it is raised or maybe poke it with a stick.
Post the reverse
There's a piece of sawdust inside the 0 that might be playing tricks on you. What I'd look at on this one is the alignment of the 1 with the denticles and the mint mark position together with the wreath bow.

Some great advise! You might get more responses and quicker. The collector that did the die study should be able to help. If you don't like that idea you could send you coin to messydesk, he dose a lot with Vams and varieties. He has a service that he dose this for many collectors. If you have something new he could help you to send it to LVA and make sure you get credit for the discovery. The next thing you can do is send it to Leroy Van Allen your self. He gets many coins sent to him, if some can be pre-screened it helps him out a lot. I will PM you my email to send me some of your other photos and I will help you if I can. I had one just about like this on a 78cc not too long ago. Mine was on the O of dollar and I was sure I had something great. Once I got home to better lighting and a better loupe I was kinda disappointed.
Thanks ... For all your comments
It's easy to see the line inside the zero, it touches both sides. If you look at the last photo you posted and click to enlarge it you can see the line seems to disappear before it reaches the right inner side of the 0. The field looks quite flat where it disappears. It could just be the lighting on that photo did not pick up the line, but the fact that it disappears still makes me think it is a spot of deceptive toning.
I will send you more pics.. It is extra metal it is not debris of any kind.
Please let us know the outcome being able to find a new vam would be amazing

Will Do ... I really think its the real deal/..
A "new" die pair variety was created with each change of obverse and/or reverse die. Only when ALL of these combinations are known and accounted for, will any examination be potentially complete.
Here is one that got me just recently.
die chips?

Nope, just a spot of very deceptive and disappointing toning. This thing looks like raised metal all day long.
That's what I was thinking.
