Silly obscure "wondering" about the no stars Seated Dimes

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭

Has anyone ever measured the thickness of the fields on a no stars Seated Dime?
I was just wondering if the fields would be any thicker due to having no stars for metal to go into and the same weight as the WITH stars dimes.

Probably half dimes too.

I suppose the metal could have gone anywhere on the coin, and then displaced some in other areas. Maybe they have higher rims? I notice that the shields on these tend to wear prematurely. Could be a good research topic.

The entire coin should be very slightly thicker with the metal distributed evenly throughout the coin. Not sure about the rims.
