Washington Quarter variety specialist needed

I have a couple examples of 1963-WDDO-004 seen here: http://doubleddie.com/1370540.html

I am simply trying to figure out a cross-reference to CONECA/Variety Vista. Wexler doesn't give a cross-ref, and Variety Vista doesn't have images up for all the 1963s attributed yet. DDO-011's description of the die markers match, down to the chip above the R in LIBERTY, but I can't for the life of me pick up on a triple spread. You can see the chip above the R on Wexler's images, but no tripling. It's either coincidental, or the tripling only shows up on early die states.

Does anyone have a cross-ref for Wexler's WDDO-004? I'm just anal about labeling things as thoroughly as possible while retaining accuracy.

Thanks gang!

  • Sorry, forgot the master listing link for description and die markers for DDO-011.

    Usually, stuff ends up as WDDO/WDDR listings because it's not pictured on VarietyVista and/or it can't be verified from the text alone in the master listings. I wouldn't call this one DDO-011 since the date doubling on yours, which seems to be the most pronounced of the doubling present, isn't mentioned in the listing. Perhaps you meant DDO-008 (DMR-011), which is shown on VarietyVista (but doesn't seem to match)?

  • Thanks for the reply. No, I ruled out DDO-008. DDO-008 is a class 5, this one is a class 2. DDO-008 cross-refs to WDDO-011. The doubling on the date is minor compared to IGWT. It simply may have never been attributed by James Wiles. Wexler himself found the WDDO-004. I have figured out some of the cross-refs, I just hoped maybe one of the coins Joe Feld submitted to Wiles may have crossed when and if he sent it to Wexler, and if someone had that knowledge. Below is my chicken scratch of the cross-refs I have worked on. The WDDO-012 to DDO-026 I am not sure about though.

    Cross refs:
    WDDO-001 = DDO-001
    WDDO-002 =
    WDDO-003 = DDO-014
    WDDO-004 =
    5 = Proof
    WDDO-006 = DDO-007
    7-10 = Proof
    WDDO-011 = DDO-008
    WDDO-012 = DDO-026?
    WDDO-013 = DDO-002
    WDDO-014 = DDO-015
    15-16 = Proof
    WDDO-017 =
    WDDO-018 =
    WDDO-019 = DDO-005
    20 = Proof
    WDDO-021 =
    22 = Proof
    WDDO-023 =
    24-25 = Proof
    WDDO-026 =
    WDDO-027 =
    28-29 = Proof

    Do you only go after Cherrypicker's Guide varieties or do you collect the minor ones also? You don't know someone that may know do you?

    Bob Zaps would know. He was on the forum many years ago as @washingtonquarterdievarieties

    Sadly, he passed away quite a few years ago. I wonder if anybody else remembers him? Very nice guy. Used to be a roadie for ZZtop
