Coins.

eBay seller just relisted a coin before even receiving my return... And is using their poor images again rather than the nice ones I provided them.

She's a beauty -- why the return?
Wow! Let's not rush things. Maybe seller is in a hurry for some Christmas Cash?
Pete
That was my first thought.
I would think Larry returned it because of what appears to be counting machine damage and the dark toning. That is only my guess though!
Props to them for not stealing your pictures. It would sure bring more for them if they did. Why the return??
...would you have bought it if the seller (somehow) used your pictures in the original listing?...if not then that’s why he isn’t using them...he already caught a fish with that same lure...you got away at the net...the pole gets cast yet again, same rig
Neat toning ......looks like the moon eclipsing. Did you find a better one for same price or less?
I agree. I feel sorry for the honest sellers on Ebay. Seems buyers can return anything. > @Wabbit2313 said:
Don't see a wheel mark and if someone cannot tell the coin has very dark terminal toning from the blurred image... well, I feel sorry for honest Ebay sellers.
PS I like Fadetobalcks image. Coin should sell faster and the new guy will probably keep it.
Why the return? Educate us please as some of us are missing what you saw.
I have to agree with others! The coin is much nicer than the sellers pictures going by yours!
I'm debating on blocking a buyer right now that bought my coin...and found one a little cheaper that doesn't hold a candle to my coin and is returning after having it for 2 weeks! I was offered the coin he bought last month and I believe it is a washed out overgarded coin.
I think I would block you!
Thanks, I get it. That's why I feel sorry for honest Ebay sellers. Anyone can buy anything for fun (YOU DID BUY IT) outbidding others and then return it for any reason. I thought there might be something wrong with the COIN or the SELLER. I'm really glad you got your money back.
I don't mind accepting returns...but not under eBay's terms! I am trying their ridiculous requirement for awhile(30 days free Shipping and returns). If it gets out of hand I will go back to my original terms...which were after 7 days a 10% restocking fee will apply. You know and I know 7 days is plenty of time to know if you don't like a coin!
I have a 2nd account I started selling on to blow stuff out. No returns and charge shipping! After several hundred sales no problems what so ever. Not offering free shipping takes care of the extra ebay charges!
From the pictures you provided the coin was nicer than depicted!!!
I have never and will never return a coin that was as good or better than described!
Good Going. Ebay needs watchdogs that nuke actions and screw those crooked, ignorant sellers. Thanks for posting your accomplishments. Perhaps you should offer to help our host price coins too!
Hey everyone ....... he just sharing the episode with all of us and not for us to judge his decision
The initial point of discussion is seller listed prematurely before receiving the return so let it be ...... we discussed everything else with less substance around here
I would return it too if I am not happy and this is not a cheap coin.
Return is allowed on the listing isn't it?
FadeToBlack’s photos are way so much better! I do see some damaged on the eagles’s lower breast. Sorry for the question, still learning but what’s going on with the date’s first 8?
For the 1st time I have to disagree with you here! The original sellers pictures showed what I consider a dog turd! He got a nice coin and returned it.
If you ever sell on ebay you will understand some of our frustration!!
This is a very interesting thread. Fade did nothing wrong in his eyes; and that is all that counts! He explained what he did and why he did it very well. RETURNS ARE ALLOWED. So is bidding up an item for the fun of it or with no intention to buy it keeping others from buying it. I've heard stories of all the crap coin dealers must put up with.
We should all be very thankful
for the "Nanny State" we live in that protects us from most things from "Cradle to Grave."

FWIW... I'm not a huge fan of this sort of toning, but even a lesser fan of the gouge right in front of a major focal point (Ms. Liberty is looking straight at it)... That said, and with the crappy initial images to work from, I'd have either not bid on it, or exercise the return policy.
As a seller on ebay, I used to offer a 14 day return but stipulated the buyer had to pay return postage. This would include insurance if the coin sold for more than $100. I also would typically image 4-5 high resolution pics to go along with the auction. In all the coin auctions I ran (only 125 or so) I never had a buyer return a coin...
That said... I'm frantically looking for some wood to knock on!!!

There are some hits on the "8" and "4." I sold a toned GSA 84-CC from my grading set for $600 and the student who begged me for it told me I sold it too cheaply when I accepted his offer. I was not up to the market prices. I had bought the coin for $120 many years before. These coins must make their own price levels.
I was talking about some kind of 8/8. Or?

@in2Coins
Boom! What a pic! Nice blow-up!
First, you tell us that rationalizing the return is black and white - the seller listed an auction while accepting returns, you won, and decided to return it.
Then, you tell us the rest of the story.
If everything was black and white, why did you feel the need to apologize? That you inconvenienced an honest seller or that wishful thinking on your part did not pan out? And why the need to offer an olive branch?
And if everything is so black and white, what do you have to gripe about?
It doesn't matter whether the seller accepts returns or not, according to Ebay policy the seller will take the return if the "item is not as described" whether they like it or not. Just for the record, I don't agree with that policy because too many people abuse it.
Maybe, but this is a discussion forum, and the buyer did say it was nice, but not 720 nice, even though that much was bid.
I may be old school, but if I make a bid and win an auction, it's mine to keep. I've never been to an auction where you get to return the item. (Maybe that's more about ebay no longer being an auction site)
But as a seller, I hate getting returns due to "the price was too high" when the bidder themselves made that bid.
I think the seller is just trying to get the item sold without problem bidders.
Sounds like one of my Ebay buyers...
Then ebay is the buy-on-approval-site you need.
"Part of my gripe is I haven't gotten my money back yet, the coin was just processed through my local distribution center today and won't be back to its home in Utah for another 2-3 days.."
You want your money back before the seller even gets their merchandise back?
Wow
Did you pay shipping both ways, as you were just taking it for a test drive?
Sorry, Even though you bought, I would block you, not worth the hassle.
How do you know that the other "nuclear" bid might have been Peachy Keen Happy, and now the buyer has lost out on a major sale.
I am in shock it sold for $720. Color is too dark for me! Even in his terrible images.
Time to list some dark GSA's!
I've been getting disappointed with some of the seller's coins on ebay that in hand don't look very close to how they sell them there. Not sure what their methods are but you can do a lot with technology these days.
The offering pictures would probably be taken as more of an insult than an olive branch in my opinion. I know you meant well and thought it as a nice gesture but put yourself in his shoes, he was already most definitely annoyed with you and critiquing the pictures is just an extra slap in the face even if it was constructive criticism it's not what he wanted to hear at that exact point in time I don't think.
$700 seems like a lot to risk on crappy pictures.
I bid on that one but based on both sets of images not a $720 coin. I stopped bidding afraid it would have no pop to the coin, and that looks to be the case. A little to dark and just not enough luster to make it real cool.
I don't have an issue with how FTB proceeded with the ebay listing.
The facts are that, according to FTB, returns were listed as accepted and that when FTB received the coin it was simply not "worth" the winning bid in-hand. Some folks complain that this isn't how an auction works, but ebay isn't a traditional auction house and ebay's rules are significantly different than those of many traditional auction houses. Therefore, just like when posting on the PCGS boards and you are bound to abide by PCGS's rules; when you play in ebay's house, you abide by ebay's rules regardless of if you are a buyer or seller.
My take on this is that FTB interpreted the blurry images to mean one thing when the coin was in-hand, but they actually meant quite a different thing in-hand. Certainly, returning the coin is a disappointment for both seller and buyer, but in my experience quite a few folks will not bid on "no return" auctions and they generally shouldn't, not unless they have absolutely no self respect.
Again, one might disagree and say they would eat the mistake in image interpretation, but I just see a misfire in a potential transaction.

Yes, for some buyers eBay auctions have become an approval service so nuclear bids don't matter as you can get your money back.

Another member mentioned a one and done policy on buyers that return coins. I am contemplating that strategy as well. Ebay is pretty much forcing sellers to not only accept, but pay 2 way shipping on returns. Most buyers keep their purchases, but a minority use Ebay as an approval service. Razor thin margins can quickly evaporate with those folks.
Life is not fair sometime depending which side you are on ......... but within the legal parameter it's a fair game for all
