@crazyhounddog you do like your pretty nickels. Those are sweet. And the colors are magnificent. I can take a photo and get it in focus and sometimes they look ok but I rarely ever get color like you do. Maybe never get color like you do would be more accurate. I sure would like to spend an hour just looking over your shoulder while you shoot some of those photos and see how you do it.

If you live Anywhere near way Northern California come on over and we’ll make a party out of it.
Thank you for your complement it has been a long road and some really nice photo equipment to get me to where I am now. The best part is that now when you take your images you can see them right away rather than waiting for them to get developed to see where you went wrong.
Like I said come on over and we’ll have some serious fun ;)
    Happy hunting, Joe

I’ve belonged here a few weeks now and gotta say I really like it. More coins, less tripe.

Having a moderator who keeps an active eye on things would have prevented lots of messes over the years. It will be a welcome change. The only suggestion I would give as a former (unrelated) forum admin & moderator is to, when possible, close offending threads instead of poofing them. It reduces the rabid speculation about what happened and serves to inform everyone about what’s ok and what isn’t.

As others have said, this place is an incredible resource and some of the best minds in numismatics are here. I’m just glad you let the rest of us in too. :)

Could we drop a few of the stickies at the top? I think we are over the rumors and 100 pt grading scale. Let's unpin them and let them sink.

Thank you for the offer @crazyhounddog. I live a few hundred miles away but someday I would like that. I love Northern California in any case.

I don’t know, someone throws out a “just wait til they move to a 100-point grading scale” comment like once a week.

I have seen fewer of them lately though. I think the sticky is working!

I guess this means I'll need to temper some of my comments from this point forward

Thank you for the feedback everyone. Someone above said it best, this is a forum about U.S. coins hosted by a company that grades and authenticates coins for the purpose of allowing people to learn about, and discusses, coins. If I see five threads on the same off-topic subject, IE. yesterday regarding the banning and return of some popular members I will close them. Members coming to the forum to ask questions or share insight do not need to see such things and wonder at the drama that unfolded. It was time to move on.

I had a much longer response written out but I will leave you all with this:

You are welcome to post an off-topic thread, just be aware it may be closed at the discretion of a mod. I would prefer to use warnings instead of outright bans, but if a severe issue arises the ban hammer will come out.

Be civil and kind, we will all get along great.

This post right here gives us all the insight as to why Don (assuming) put you on this task. Sounds like you will be involved, knowledgeable and bendable unless and until a nail sticks up that needs the "Heather Hammer." I had my reservations about you (not personally per say, more along the lines of your mandate) but this one post has alleviated most of my concerns. That said, creation of a general discussion sub-forum should be strongly considered :smile:

    The more you VAM..

I think he just creates the images on Photoshop! ;)

Everyone needs a little satire now and then as long as its not too harsh or vulgar. Life/coins will get somewhat boring without it. It's fun/entertaining to watch someone unravel in an argument. It's all part of growing up, learning our lessons of civility, growing a thick skin. Just posting coins and making everyone say, how nice....is boring and not constructive in steering that individual to better coins.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

I, for one, am glad that the "whip has been cracked" so to speak. For me, collecting coins is a hobby, and hobbies should be fun and relaxing. It's not fun or relaxing to come to a web forum to discuss coins, see other collectors' finds, and share stories about collecting... and in order to do that you have to wade through posts tinged with bad attitudes, insults, and political takes.

Welcome, Heather. Your presence and "mission" is MUCH APPRECIATED.

My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.
