Are you referring to all mint marks available for each year of Peace Dollars ? This would make a "complete" set of them which would be nice. Then you could go after varieties as a next goal. Making a complete set of any denomination or design is a goal many collectors have. As opposed to a "type" kind of set that isn't geared to completeness but just a selection of different denominations or designs.
If this idea of completeness appeals to you then go for it.
34-S in Mint State(even lower end) is going to be expensive.

Once you make it to first base, you want to get to second. From there, you're nearly to home. Just go all the way, you know you want to!
Realistically, you can always look at your total coins expenditure as a percentage of your net worth.
So long as your "total coins" number doesn't exceed 10% of your personal net worth, and you don't have a lot of short-term debts, then you shouldn't have to worry about what you do, coin-wise.
Do what makes you happy.

If it was me I would stick to the keys and some day them key's will be able to buy you a nice car or some thing nice with out to much down side. But that's just me dumb Type2 thinking.

If the 34 S poses no difficulty in its purchase, then its a no brainer--go, go, go and best of luck. And if you do go for the complete set, try to place those coins with similar color or grade in the collection which would make for an eye catching set of coins.

It is too bad that PCGS doesn't have a Peace Dollar Mint Mark Set.
I asked customer service one time and was told with only (3) coins it was not something that they would do.

The 34-S is the one that is blocking me from a complete set. Expensive in MS and AU58, and often downright ugly in lower grades.

Lest you may some day wish to sell, you might consider moving toward CAC for future purchases. Just a tiny bit of insurance.
Completion of a set is always (for me) the goal. Every now and then if something else comes up that I like, I diverge.
But you have to focus and stick with it till it's done.

Challenge, yes, based on your style, but if you do 'do it', stick with one grade. It hurts my eyes looking at complete sets with coins ranging from MS62 to MS66. But that's me.

Seeing how excited you were when you acquired that really nice 1921, I would assume you enjoy collecting Peace Dollars. If that is the case, and you are having fun, then you might want to complete the set. I don't think prices are going up any time soon, so I would be picky and buy the coins you really like. Or if you now like another series better then move on, I don't think you can make a wrong decision, as long as you are enjoying the hunt.
I agree. Discretionary funds only, Hobbies are supposed to relieve stress, not create it.

You're half-way there already, and if the others are anything like the 1921, you probably have a stack of pretty nice coins.
I love the 24-coin set of Peace dollars. It's not so big that it's an enormous headache and each issue in the series has its own little quirks. Finding a nice 23-S is a pretty tall order. The common die cracks of the 23-D are really interesting.
I did this set, and then sold/traded it all for upgrades, and then did it again. It was a fun trip and Peace dollars in higher grades are truly spectacular. Don't worry about the 34-S. It's the key, but nice ones turn up with regularity. The San Fran issues are the most difficult to find with strong eye appeal.

I had the same thought. Some day I will attempt it.
Capital Plastics used to make a very nice $5 gold coin holder for "The only coin denomination minted at all seven mints". This was before any "P" mintmark was ever used and before the "W" was explicitly used. I remember the holder well, but personally saw very few ever completed.
Today, of course, one should go the TPG slab route.
I say go for it.

If you want a challenging, yet acheiveable, project put together a set of 1950 to 1970 Cameo proof and SMS coins from unslabbed coins you find in OGP and aftermarket holders.
105 coins needed to complete the set, more if you include the major varieties, many more if you also include the minor varieties.
I have been plugging away on mine for 18+ years. Now I am in upgrade mode.
62-66 is a pretty small range! There are very few sets that can be assembled in the same grade without a hugely disproportionate cost coming from just a few coins.
I agree with the others. Figure out how much you want to spend on the 34-S and go from there. You could probably do the rest in 64-66 and it won’t affect the total cost as much as a grade bump into low MS on that one key.
Peace dollars aren't really very attractive until they get up around MS64. There are exceptions, but most anything lower is usually baggy or lackluster. Fortunately, except for the 34-S, this isn't such a lofty grade.
Try doing a set with clean cheeks or clean eagles. It's harder than it sounds.
I put together a mintmark set of $5 Gold in a Capital Plastic holder back in the mid 1980's. They are in PCGS holders now.
I'd agree with Type2, at this point in my collecting stage.
I understand the "want them all" mindset. I have it and had it. Then I moved, in some of them, to the "year set".
I have now gone, largely, to the "keys" or "special" coins to give me a "type set" type of thing.
I have a few peace dollars....couple that came from family members, couple that are toned. No real interest in the others as they are "blah" to me....but I do know some others like them.
So, collect what you want, but if you are already questioning it.....

Go for it.
For some the enjoyment is the accomplishment of obtaining one of each date/mint. Doesn't have to be the highest grade we can or maybe cannot afford. Studying a nice matched set in a grade you can afford is a pleasant pastime for these cold fall and winter evenings. Well, you can skip the cold evening part, but you get the idea.
Don't complete a set just to do it. If you don't feel an intense drive, move on.

Being far away from the immediate happenings limits the availability to otherwise direct access to shows / coin stores etc.
I have to depend on BST, eBay and other online auctions for options thus presents an added challenge to a point.

If you work with a dealer like Larry Shapiro it goes a long way to removing the distance barrier. He’s great to work with and has a good sense of what’s nice & what isn’t.
I think you'll be able to do the set in record time, if you were of a mind to -- so don't do that, be picky with the UNC examples you select. I actually like circulated Peace dollars and wouldn't mind a circ set of them at all. Since getting a nice '28-s, 24-S and 34-P for not much above melt, I may someday get coins that match well with them for an overall, "cheap" set (compared to uncs, anyway.)

I like the idea of certified coins as very marketable, easily valued, bought and sold. I would look for nice ones that fit the set and upgrade them in time.
