Also, especially when you are starting out, it is best to look for known varieties instead of trying to discover new ones. I am not aware of any varieties or the 1972D cent (but I could be wrong).
IMO, The 2 appears the same on both coins. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the top coin could have suffered a hit at the top of the digit while in circulation. This displaced the metal and may explain why it looks different to you.

According to the CONECA files there are six different obverse doubled die for the 1972-D cent. See them here-http://varietyvista.com

@Benito The 2's on the Lincoln cents look identical to me in your photos. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see a difference.

Looks like lower angle an the two close plus a different angle or An seen things looks to me different
