eBay BROWSING question.

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭

eBay has apparently fallen under the spell of the stupid APP addicts who use a PHONE for EVERYTHING. :#
I also have an Android device that I use as a ...supplemental... thing but use a real computer for almost everything whenever I can.

And it displays eBay stuff in a very lousy way. Icons to view images, all sorts of rotten stuff that is EASY on a computer.

My question: If you fall for their propaganda and INSTALL that app, will it cross over in your account and default to that on your REAL computer when you browse the site?

I won't add the "app" unless it stays isolated to ONLY the dumb tablet.

???

I'm pretty sure ebay still gives you the option on how you want to view listings.

No, the app is independent of the browser/computer-based eBay, but logging into the app and the browser with the same eBay ID will allow you to save/view searches, saved items, etc., from both platforms. There is some benefit to that... my two favorite uses are that (1) the iPad/iPhone apps will allow you to save searches by name, which the browser-based app does not, and (2) of course the app will sometimes give 10% eBay bucks while the browser gives 8%, so you can browse items on the computer, save them, then go over to the phone app to buy them and rack up an additional 2% back.

    OP has a great question.

I try to use the computer exclusively when cruising eBay.

The internet connection for the phone is only for when I am in a remote location for too long.

I only use the app for the 10% or if I am away from my computer.

I only browse on the computer with a big screen.

I never use the eBay functions to save stuff.
I made a folder in my browser and save searches there by the item URL.
Keeps it neat and easy and doesn't indicate any "watching."
    B)

Oh wait.... I do save watches on AUCTION listings just so I get a "reminder" by email that the thing is nearing the end.

I too prefer browsing ebay on a regular computer, the app is good when I'm on the go.

Yes, apps are specific to the medium on which they are downloaded.

The settings have not changed for me in app versus website.

FYI, many ebucks specials give more % for purchases made in the app. This is why I eventually installed the app.

I commonly see bucks offers for 10% in app with 8% on website.
I almost exclusively use the app, on my phone I can usually zoom in better than on desktop pictures.

The app works well as a blunt object for making simple listings but is really annoying when it constantly pushes the price reduction features and promoted listings offers when finalizing every single listing.

This is true for those sellers who use low-res images that can't be zoomed in on a browser. However, good, high resolution photos are compressed for mobile data savings and you don't get the same level of detail in the picture. This is the #1 thing that annoys me about the app. There really should be an option for full resolution images.

MUCH easier and more convenient to use eBay on my phone rather than a “””real””” computer.
Since you’re using android that’s probably your problem.
