So me being a novice at this, is the obverse a triple die or what? The area in front of the face appears like three strikes.

Actually it's quadruple in parts if you look closely. But of course it isn't the die that is triple or quadruple. Just the coin. Capped bust halves were struck on screw presses until 1836 and there was sometimes a little wobble or mechanical slop to them.
