A better idea than the 100 point grading system

Since the 100 point system idea was nuked, how about just putting numerical details on Genuine holders instead. Instead of a vague "UNC Details" how about "MS65 details," etc.

I asked ICG about that once, and they didn't like it; though they and Anacs do a 58 details which I think N and P should do too.

I prefer the way it is done now, with no number.
The numeric grade is supposed to correlate with prices.
With a details coin, the price can vary quite a lot, depending on the buyer's preferences.

I remember the time someone recommended a better idea than 8 minute abs. Then someone improved on that. By the time you get to 1 minute abs and 0 minute abs, the better is gone.

They should use their expertise to assign a Net grade with number that makes sense to the Market.

I get not doing that for MS grades as the “details” part describes only the level of wear. They could certainly differentiate the circulated grades though. A VF20 and a VF35 don’t have the same details. I imagine there just isn’t much of a market for the differentiation as the level of wear usually matters less than the overall eye appeal of a details coin.

There are numerous instances where the problem that makes the coin a no grade would make assigning a number to the coin completely impossible. Also, it may be worth asking yourself, who would want to own an MS67 details coin?

I think collectors would rather have a net graded coin.

There are lots of coins in tough series that are net graded when the same damage would be a no grade in a more common series.

An Ms67 details 200+ year old US gold coin, lightly wiped, net AU, priced as a Fine-12. Yes please! Done and done and thrilled with it. And grateful to the market for not appreciating such coins yet.

The market doesn't price the coin that you describe as an F12 whether it's raw or net graded.
