MAULUMALL,
It was already on my snipe list. Besides the Accented Hair, I wanted that blue nickel. I was kind of hoping this thread would just die and not get noticed.
Rover No I saw it about 3 days ago and put it on my List. I hope I didn't mess you up. I was wondering why you were a little tense.I'll try to make it up to you.
Sounds like a few of us had it on our snipe list. I thought it would cruise under most everyone's radar because of the smaller pic. Once he posted reverse pics, I knew the cat was out of the bag.
I don't have a snipe program. It's my Fem's birth year set.I was checking where the bidding was going to get a feel of how much I would go.I was doing $10.00 increments.I may put a snipe on it.I really think it's gonna go up a bit more.
If you are going to bid I'll leave it alone.
It's a nice group of coins.besides the Franklin,The deep blue nickel and The deep cam rosie,You get what looks like a pretty nice AH Kennedy
not sure which auction but man I was disappointed - they were going to be my first 64 sets. Oh well, I guess I didn't want them bad enough. I ended up getting three others of which I have received one (whose dime I posted yesterday with that milky crap on it). What is your impression of these so-called 'unopened' proof sets from eBay? Do you tend to believe that most have never actually been opened?
Of the three that came from Suze21, one was an Accented Hair. Nothing special about the rest of the coins.
<< <i>Do you tend to believe that most have never actually been opened? >>
BSqr,
I believe that most HAVE been opened or, at the very least, randomly spot-checked. I can show you one seller who frequently sells batches of ten "unopened" sets but also sells plenty of raw Accented Hairs and NO regular raw Kennedys. He must be damned lucky that the only sets he opens happen to have an AH.
I can show you another seller that sells off literally hundreds of "unopened" 1964 sets every week, yet lists plenty of freshly graded 1964 halves, always in PR69. HMM....I guess he's also just very lucky.
I look for small batches from sellers that don't have a history of selling certified coins or are non-collectors/ex-collectors selling off stuff (see Suze21 above) . I also look for open sets with a good scan (that's where most of my Accented Hairs have come from).
Looks like a lot of competition between our forum members. I kind a like the 3 jeffs and the two Frankies.Ah,just a little over 2 hours left.I wonder whose going to nail this one.I'll be waiting in the wings.I don't have any mints sets prior to 1980.I might have to sell my dime to get this set.Isn't it a nice "rush" regardless if you win or lose? Gentlemen, start your engines!!!!!!
<< <i>Damm Russ, what did this guy do to get you this upset. >>
Back in July this moron listed an "MS69" NTC slabbed 1964 Kennedy half that was obviously a proof coin. He had an opening bid of $800 on a coin that was worth $15. There was a thread here discussing it, and several of us, including myself and Morris (MNMCOIN) sent him eMails pointing out the error. He told us all we were full of crap, so we kept hammering away at him to try and make sure nobody got screwed.
He finally did cancel the aution but, before doing so, edited it and added the following:
<< <i>This auction has been cancelled since Ebay ID's: COMPUCHEAP & MNMCOIN are spreading FALSE & MALICIOUS information about this coin. >>
I use to collect Frankie's Back in the 80's, had a couple of complete sets in MS63 to MS65 (Raw) and a dozen or so Cameo Proofs. Then I went and got married and started to raise a family. Had to sell them off to pay the bills.
I have always loved the Franklin Half Dollars, and now that I am starting my collection again I am going to concentrate on them.

Just wondering what your logic is?

Russ did you get those 5 unopened 64 sets yet? You sniped me on that one.
I got five sets in today from one auction, but I have five more on the way from another. Which auction was it?
Russ, NCNE
How 'bout the ones from Suze21?
Dan

I am the guilty one that made the two second snipe.
I think I might have paid to much, but I REALLY wanted the "Blue Nickel"
Jim
I've got a half dozen blue nickels if you want them? Trade for the Frankie?
Dan
Thanks for the offer, but I was just kidding about the "Blue Nickel"
The real reason I bought it was for the Half Dollars...
