I’m confused....this must be the same find from the guy who grew up in Connecticut, right? This new article refers to his card being in the current Heritage Auction, but the 8.5 there is the same one from the Connecticut find. Also, this find refers to five Mantle rookies, just like the other one.
I think this Mantle found in Jersey is new. Two brothers cleaning out moms house.
Article is poorly written but I think they've consigned to Heritage and are looking at the current crop as a guide for what they may get for theirs...
...but I could be wrong. I'm in NJ and this is on the local news but I think the guys don't want to be identified making some of the details sketchy. Sounds like it's a nice copy and potential for high grade.
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?
The NJ story that started this thread is definitely the same find as the CT story from March. It’s just getting new coverage because the card is at auction now.
The card shown by KC above is totally unrelated, but appears to be a beauty!
The Mantle consigned during the National would be the third high-grade Mantle find for them in a few months. At least this time there was only one . The publicity over the $2.88 million sale of Evan Mathis' card earlier this year is bringing them out of the woodwork. This was Find #2 in June (there's a link in there to Find #1): https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/1950s-baseball-card-find/
The one shown in this thread is ridiculous, but I am sure there are flaws we cannot notice quickly due to the eye appeal being outrageous; if all checks out with grading, it would jump the 9 sold earlier this year by Evan, IMO.
If a wonky crease is on the back or front, it could easily be the highest valued Mantle "$ amount/ per grade" out there.

This looks like a beautiful example!
did it grade out?
Not yet according to their post. PSA will be grading it.
Assuming it is legit that example has centering found in maybe less than 1% of all 52 Mantles and will command a premium no matter what grade it gets.

This just popped up in my Facebook memories. Glad I took a pic!
That particular display is what dreams are made of for so many BBC collectors!
