I just wanted to know if this is normal toning for a copper penny.

That is interesting. The coin appears to have spend some time in a roll or album.

    Where'd you find it?

In a coin roll, I am searching many right now and I have also just found a 1957 penny that I think might be ms 68

Why does the sudden, recent appearance, with multiple posts, asking the same relative questions, smack of AltID?

    Got Crust....y gold?

What do you mean? I just have a lot of pennies.

Toning is not bad, but bag marks hold that one back.

The reverse is probably bright cherry red.
My guess is that it was the end coin in an old paper wrapped "shotgun" type roll.
Your coin has nice color and would command a small premium.
If it was my coin I would be asking $5-$10 for it.
    And it would sell quickly.
    Copper collectors like that "look."
When they look like that, they are keepers.

Go to the search feature and enter wood grain toning. Several good threads about that look there.
