Registered Mail insurance is capped at $50k. The fee is adjusted upward for packages with declared values of more than $1M. But in no case is the PO liable for more than $50k.

Weird, but true. Some say the higher fee is for extra security.

Every Registered mail package I have sent or received has tracking number starting with RE then 9 numbers, and ending US. The tracking number on your package reads like what I normally see on a priority package. Just wondering if a postal expert might know why.

It's something to do with being from NGC. Their tracking number looks like a priority mail version. I had a valuable (for me) coin coming back from them. I became concerned at the slowness and called them. The customer service person assured me it was their version of a registered mail number, and indeed when I checked the box (+subsequent boxes, and glanced at an old one) they do indeed have the 'priority style' number...but they were all registered. I'd even gotten a printout from my post office of the internal tracking, and when I looked at it closely it was labeled Registered there too.

I don't know the how or why of NGC having a special registered mail number configuration. Odd and something I'd just made a note of. Perhaps because of volume/value they have a special account with their local PO.

eBay is not the way to sell a high valued item if you are worried about shipping/being scammed.

It is my understanding that PP and eBay do not require signature as proof of delivery and only require tracking.

Does anyone have a link to eBay and PP terms regarding proof of delivery?

EBay/PayPal require a viewable signature on line to confirm delivery for any item over $750.

This also is the threshold (approx. $750) where it actually becomes cheaper to send an insured item via registered mail. Plus, there's the added security of registered mail.

My rule of thumb is anything over $600 goes registered with electronic return receipt.

While a post office purchase registered tracking number will end in "US," I have seen the prefix begin with other two letter designations - always beginning with an "R" which I assume stands for registered. My last one began with "RF."

The pictured registered label is from Sarasota, FL (most likely NGC). I was not aware, but apparently USPS has authorized a limited number of volume registered mail senders to generate registered labels in-house such as the one pictured. Imagine the money and man-hours saved by USPS in allowing these approved senders to generate their own registered labels. I'm sure it requires specific training, approval and monitoring. I'd love to be deputized by USPS to generate my own registered labels, buy my volume is rather low.

Danny Nunez is the return address name for the NGC boxes (not to mention that is an NGC shaped box). Neat they get to generate their own labels. Good for saving man hours at the PO, and good for NGC (or anyone else) who can then minimize handling steps.

Postage was purchased online and not at the Post Office. See my reply of Feb 24, 2018

I don't really think that is a registered package.

It sure is...brown tape covering all the seams, printing on label that identifies it as such and a Registered tracking number that I verified online.

That isn't a Registered mail number. Registered starts with an "R" followed by another letter and nine digits and ending in "US." Looks like a private label to me.

Went to the Post Office today to mail out a couple packages. I asked the clerk about the number on the label. He said it you purchase online the Registered Mail number will look like a regular tracking number. If you get it at the PO you'll see the R and US number.

My online USPS account will not allow me to purchase registered on-line. While the pic of shipping label from NGC shows an on-line generated registered mail label, this is not an option for everyone.

Yep. They got the same free tracking that most/all other online purchasers get.
