    I can't say I have a favorite grade. More important for me is that the coin is problem-free in whatever grade it merits. So something of CAC sticker caliber is always my favorite.

    XF45 Lincolns have nice details and usually have nice even chocolate surface. Seems like AU a lot of times has distracting color variations or speckles.

    I would tend to agree with what BuffaloIronTail said. I tend to buy uncirculated/proof coins, but when I buy circulated coins I want to be able to see all the design elements clearly with only high-point wear. that usually means XF-AU for me.

    I like cameo circs on silver coins only, with that gray patina in the fields. Best when the coin is EF 40 to ef 45. Then you have good detail also..

    Great thread. Personally, I've always loved nice looking circs. I've often told people I collect VF-70s. :-) Something so honest about a coin that did its work for several years, then was "retired" before it wore slick.
