Born in 86, my grandfather got me hooked as we searched for DDO cents in 1995. What a fun summer!

...when Pocahontas brought us Colors of the Wind, Pixar released Toy Story, Clinton was in office, and furbies, tomagotchi, pogs, and tickle-me-Elmo were absolutely everywhere.

I don't remember ever not collecting coins or baseball cards.

From my earliest recollection of memory, I had a collection of both.

Nothing graded at the time. ;)

Five or six. Went thru municipal parking meter bags of cents and got my first proof set for my 6th birthday.
Still have my Whitman cent folders and the proof set in Capitol holder.

Parking meters used to take cents?

62 years old. I think I can top any collecting story or at least match it. I have Tinnitus so I have to keep the TV on as I fall asleep. It helps deaden the noise. On Friday nights on the History Channel is Ancient Aliens. No guns, bombs or screaming. Just monotone voices and I fall asleep to it. At 3:00 am Coin Collecting comes on. I'm dead asleep but I guess subliminally I must have heard the show. I know I've woken up to it on. For some reason I decided I wanted to check out coin collecting. No I am not buying that over priced stuff. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Oh yeah, I remember those back in my hometown in the 1960s. A penny got you 12 minutes on the meter, a nickel for an hour, and a dime for 2 hours.

Started pulling 90% silver out of circulation around 1966 when I was seven years old.

Collected Lincoln Cents (as everyone did) from circulation and in Whitman albums, and also Barber Quarters and Halves by date and mintmark, purchased mostly from Theodore Gold and later Murray Altman.

I'll bet a few of you remember Murray Altman but does anyone know who Theodore Gold was? He was more of an antiques guy with coins with a store in Dobbs Ferry, NY. This was late 1960s- early 1970s.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.
